Anyone know if it is an easy fix and where to get parts for the steering gearbox? I was checking for the "current" location of my steering play and the pitman arm shaft is loose in the gearcase now. The steering on these things is almost as dissapointing as the lift pumps on the newer rigs.

Did the adjustments about 3 months ago.

Shaft that the pitman arm is on moves side to side in housing and has started to leak oil. Thanks for the post though. It took me a long time to find the last time and I am sure ohters can use it as well.

I hate to post contrary to Scott's recommendation above, he is a great guy(yes, I've met him) and very knowledgeable, and has a heck of a truck, but I've personally had the WORST possible luck with AGR. Their service was HORRIBLE. It took 5 weeks of phone calls to get a return shipping label sent to me, that's the only way they will accept returns ! I shipped the pump and steering gear back 3 weeks ago, no refund, no word from them. Guess I'll have to hit the phone again soon to follow up. Their steering gear lasted all of 3 months, and failed two weeks out of warranty. Their steering pump was sent to me without the needed "dog" shaft coupling. On some pumps, like on my 2001, the dog is not removeable, be warned.

I'd shoot myself before I ever, ever came close to treating my customers as bad as they treated me, and I certainly won't sell re-painted junk...

Maybe Scott got lucky and got a good one. I do know I'm not the only one who has had major problems all-around with AGR.

There are sources for dependable, reasonably priced pumps and steering gears, I'd give Enterprise Engine Performance a call. They have a line on the best stuff, as always.

You can also email me.

Hi Briar,

Can you please post the #or WEB address to Enterprise Engine Performance. I may be in the market for a new steering box for my 01

Thanks

No need for a new steering box

If your pitman has side play at the box then you just have to replace the needle bearing. The seal kit is available from Dodge and is cheap. The bearing can be ordered from any bearing supply for less than $20. I replaced mine last year and the hardest part was getting the pitman arm off. Other than that it was quick and easy. Mine is still fine. The bearing I used had more needles and seemed beefier. Worked great for me, less than $40 and a hour or so of work. Can't remember the part number of the bearing now, I got it from here somewhere though,

Tony
