My steering is stick/bind when driving down the road. have have to minor correct for large crowned roads where I live and drive for a short distance in a straight line without moving the wheel and try to correct and it doesnt want to turn back right. if i feel the bind i can turn left a little and then go back right and its gone. i didnt start noticing this problem until i changed wheels and tires. went from 16x6. 5 with 265's to 17x8 3rd gens with 295's it has the lower column bushing fix, borgenson shaft, dss, adjustable 3rd gen track bar, new gear box and screen was checked in ps pump. i also drilled out the fitting in the back of the pump 2 sizes up. the pump fluid has been changed 2 x's to synthetic. the pump does growl a little when turning fast to the left at the certian spot where it sticks and does it at the same clock position of the wheel when turning left. ex: every time u pass 1 o clock while still turning left. all parts were installed before the prob arrived. i have noticed it does get worse the warmer the engine is. when i changed the gearbox, i lost my steering return. the guy i got the pump from said its characteristic of the pump, being super tight. and wondering if its not the box causing the stick/bind. also checked, not foaming of the fluid in the ps pump when running. any help will be appreciated.

I have the same symptom. One guy said it *could* be incorrect toe (too far in or too far out). I'll find out next Tuesday when I bring it in. Another possibility is the hydraulics don't work quite right. When you turn one way or t'other, it might be the valves taking a little too long or too much pressure to open, thus delaying power assistance. I also need to check the DSS bearing to be sure that isn't worn.

My truck's never had much 'self return'; not when new nor when I installed a reman gear from PSS north of Columbus. And it did take quite a few miles for all the air to work out of the new gear; I just lived with the steering being weird until those few remaining pockets of air moved out.

let me know what they find. im leaning toward more of a hydraluic issue than anything else. it workd perfect until i changed the tires. now theres a little more load on it. i dont think it can keep up.

From you description, I had a similar situation with my car a couple of years ago. I was driving down the freeway. And when the road curved a little, and I tried to turn the wheel, it was just like it had hit a stop. I turned slightly to left, then hit the turn to the right hard. I felt the "stop", but it continued thru the "stop" and let me curve with the road (scared the $@%^ out of me)

I took it to the dealer, and they found that there was a plastic part broken in the steering column.

Probably not what is wrong with your truck. But if you cant figure it out, and it keeps happening, it might be a place to look.

Where'd you get the nex box? I just got one from NAPA that would bind to the left. The end clearance was set up incorrectly. I just got another box.
