Who has step bars or what kind are out there for the 1st gen trucks, went last night even though we had the snowstorm and had my first date with this young lady, it went very well. The thing is she is only 5'4 and had a heck of a time getting into the truck, any suggestions other than carrying a foot stool with me.

Is there a single step mount that i can get other than the full step bars? and we have around a 9-10 inches of snow and i drove back last night in what was sometimes blizzard conditions and the 92 performed fantastic, not the first slip of the wheel or anything Oo.

There is not much available anymore for our first gens.

4 years ago I searched and found only Smittybuilt. I call them "$hittibuilt" because they are now all rotted to H. Total garbage IMO.

Wyatt,

First of all, congratulations on the successful date. If you can find a woman that doesn't mind riding in a 1st Gen diesel, through a snowstorm, she might be a keeper!

My wife is shorter than 5'4", and a step is a must, even though mine is a D not a W. There is still a generic "loop" step from Steel Horse Industries. It's kind of like a squared off horseshoe shape and about 6 inches wide. They make a small one (which comes in a pair) for about $35-40 I have seen these at Pep Boys, but imagine that Advance might have them too. And a larger one (about a foot wide) that I still see on EBay for about $90.

Another thing I have made for my "shorty" wife is a wooden foot stool. It's like a shoebox size and she puts her feet on it during long road trips.

I'm currently in North Carolina and am hoping that Floyd didn't get too much snow. Otherwise I'll have to walk up the hill for the tractor and blade the driveway before I can get up to the house.

My wife is 5'2". We put the Steelhorse 6" on immediately after buying it six years ago. Works fine, stands up well to the weather (we lived up north for four of those six years). You can see what it looks like in my Gallery.

Not sure how much snow Floyd Co. got Phil but its still coming down here we have around 7-8 inches on the ground and they are saying up to another 6 inches by monday morning, Yes the date went well, great girl, We were in Bristol Va. last night and ate there, my drive back home wasn't to bad until i got back toward Marion, Va. in Smyth Co. and from there to the house was a slow go but i didn't mind it.

DBF where did you pick up the SteelHorse 6 at, i do need them even for me at almost 6'2 i have to jump in and my left knee isn't going to take much more of that abuse, may end up tearing something and i don't need that... Thanks guys for your replies and Phil i hope you get back home safely...

It was one of the local Manassas VA auto stores, probably Pep Boys. I just now went looking for Steelhorse info and found out they were bought out in 2002 and their new owner has remade them into a Jeep support outfit. There are other companies in that same conglomerate that make steps for various pickups, like the link below, but all their stuff is for newer (2002-2005, etc. ) pickups.

I couldn't even find them on the JC Whitney web site.

The Summit Racing catalog finally showed a few options, including the one company Jay wasn't very flattering about. If you go to their online site

( http://store.summitracing.com/ ) and type "truck step" into their search tool, then select "universal" from the options to narrow the results, you'll come up with several options from Go Rhino (about which I know nothing). You could also look by brand at Rhino and at Carr, which has a set of steps in the catalog.

I made a set for my truck out of 4" square tubing, (my nickname is Goose so my friends called them Goose Steps) they are gusseted & welded (gasp) right to the frame. It took an afternoon to build & install.

Wyatt, As stated in a reply above pep boys usually has some ,last time I cked they had Bully Dog single step bars . like narrow 6 to 10 inches maybe I think i'll go see and if they do get some for my 93.

My wife is 5'3". She has been whining for many years for me to install the running boards I have standing up in the corner of the garage. :-laf

But the last time I had a $X$ she could get into easy. It disappeared every day it looked like it was going to snow or snow was in the forecast. So be warned. :D

Hey Southpaw thanks for the headsup on pep boys.

Philip surprise her today for valentines day and put those running boards on... . Thanks everyone for there input and advice on this, i have a keeper and well i don't need her hurting herself getting into the truck, want to keep both ladies happy

I'll put the boards on when I get the replacement cab on and painted.

They are a set of westin stainless boards.

I have been married for 3 decades +. So I guess mine is a keeper. :-laf

well i guess you to have a legit excuse, i know i can't think of one why i don't have any up on mine other than i haven't taken the time and up til now i was making do with jumping in the truck, can't justify it now, well i can cause that means i get to help her in the truck each time she gets into it :).

My truck has steps on it, they were there when I bought it. They are Carr. They do the job, and aren't big and silly looking.

I've got a set of SMITTYBILT nerf bars on my '02,and they're great ! I like the way they mount to the cab mounts (no drilling). Mine are stainless, and are holding up great. I've had the same set on 2 trucks. Does anyone know if they offer them in stainless for my '92? (reg cab). Oo.

I just pulled the steps off of my truck. I did not want anything hanging down below the truck. They are just laying in the shop and I have no plans for them I pulled them off of a 93 W250 truck. The brand is CARR and the step measures about 6 1/2" wide.

Why Not

heck everybody im 7 ft n wife is 5 ft 4and truck is sittin on 37's so what i do is just carry a folding step short people need luv to you know :)

I just put on a set of Go Rhino Universal side steps. Mostly they are for my mom (and other family members). I'm 5'6" and have no trouble getting into a Dmax with a 6" lift and 35s. :D
