If they are the stirrup type that is how I installed mine and they have been on for 4-5 month's without any problems and I am 6 ft. tall and 250 lbs and use them all the time.
Hope this helps.

On both my 94 gasser and my current 98 I've had either stepbars or GoRhino Nerf Steps and drilled into the pinchweld area and have had no problems. Due to a physical handicap I was forced to use a step that would be out from the threshold farther than products that mount in the more preferred methods. If your concern is strength, not to worry. If it's rust, I treated the exposed metal and after 2 1/2 yrs no sign of any rust. Can't say the same for the GoRhino nerfbars. They suck, chrome peeling and rusting. If I can find something else in the future I will replace. Hope this helps.

In NJ all you have to do is worry about rust

Nerf bars mount on cab mounting bolts and have hangers suspended from the double panel unused mounting points under the floor. No holes to drill and nerfs will protect from parking lot door dings better than steps. Oh; you can also stand on the nerfs to wash winshild or scrape snow or frost with out wearing the paint off the fender and door reaching across from the ground

just because your chrome is peeling does not mean every brand will and there is aways stainless nerfs or powder coated

Westin and afew other brands will cutom make nerfs that will extend futher out than standard production kits. contact the factories as several baja racers out here use custom bars.

Most of the Mopar steps and bars mount this way. I have probably mounted over 50 sets this way and have had no problems. The quality of the mopar steps and rails is very good, and the factory must approve of the mounting system before it is marketed.
