My CD player quit working quite a while ago and I found a member selling the radio out of his truck. I have the Infinity system in mine and his truck is an SLT. His radio looks like mine and I'm wondering if the Infinity system is just the upgraded speakers /amps. Are the radios the same?

Thanks-Casey

I thought the Infinity system was completely different - that even the head units were different.

I think (based on the shoddy diagrams in the parts manual) that the AM/FM/CD (code RBK) appears identical to the AM/FM/6-disc CD (code RBQ).

Do you have a 6-disc changer, or a single-disc?

My Infinity system is single disk & cassette. Infinity adds tweeters in the A-pillars and power amps mounted to the back of the front door speakers. The wiring is completely different since the amp handles the front and rear for each side. I have no idea if the connector on the back is different but a look at my FSM shows the same connector pinout on the radio.

Sounds to me like the "new" radio will bolt in. I guess you need to decide whether you're willing to risk it.

The Infinity Radio is the same. You need to run power to the speaker amps. Just up graded the sound system in my 2nd gen. First failed to connect the power ant wire cause I dont have power ant, well thats the wire to the speaker amps in the Infinity system.

Then you don't have the Infinity.

I do have Infinity system, its on my build sheet as well as written on the speaker grilles. According to my shop manual, both decks put out the same wattage to the speakers. The only thing I can think the difference is the Infinity system has the amps and upgraded speakers/tweeters. I asked the dealeship why I didn't have the 6 disc and was told the early '03 got what they had on the shelf at the factory. A neighbor bought this truck 1 month before I bought mine and he also has a single disc.

I stand corrected. I thought all Infinity stereo systems had the 6 CD changer.

I ordered the Infinity system in my current '08 and previous '06 Rams. Both have the RBQ head with six disc changer as well as the added speakers and perhaps amplifier.

It may not have been that way on earlier models.

I do know that it is not possible to exchange a head unit out of an '06 or later Ram truck with an earlier model because of the CANBUS electronics used in the '06 and later models.

I may have a RBQ in very good condition if you'd prefer a unit with the 6 CD changer built in. I am upgrading to an after martket and if all goes well, then my RBQ will be available.

I replaced the single CD tape player with the 6 CD unit, I wanted the multi CD with the tape player but it would not fit in the dash. The plugs were the same and it did work/play just would not fit. I did not want to modify the dash after spending all the money for the unit. 6 Cd's are nice better tha changing the Cd while driving.

I have 2006 Ram 4x4 SB : factory Sterio am/fm/6cd/withNav. my disk says cannot read disk. cant get my service readings for tire rot,oil changes, clock,Etc. is there another way i can get my imfo out. The dealer wants 500. 00 for new disk . & no garentee that will fix it. another 1,400. 00 for sterio. This all started after the dealer fixed heater door in dash . the spkers go left to right of course it is out of worenty & thay wont fix it.

I may go ahead and pick it up from the member, for $45 plus shipping, that's not even a half a tank of fuel. Are the dashes the same on the '05?

You might have better luck in getting good suggestions if you started a new thread with a new subject line and repeat your post so that members will read it. Your question seems to be more about how to recover lost information from the ECM rather than a stereo question.

I don't know the answer but one of the experienced Dodge-Cummins techs probably know how to do it if it can be done.

my bad, i saw you have an '03. i would call crutchfield. they are spot on and will talk all day with no pressure. johnny
