I have the standard stereo in my truck, no CD. Want to upgrade and have a CD stacker installed and whatever upgrades for the sound that would be the best bang for the buck. Were talking buck bang of $300. 00 :( I will have this work done at a stereo place (I don't do electronics) Any suggestions on brands and what to get would be great. Also any recommendation on what I should watch out for with the Dodge trucks (don't want to have anything screwed up) Thanks PS (I don't know jack about this stuff)

HELP

dude, don't waste the money, do it yourself. Pioneer makes two different model cd players that are direct bolt in, and you can get a harness to plug into your factory dodge harness and then into the cd player, no wiring required. The dashtrim peice is simply to take off also. YOU can do it all in 30 minutes. For right around 300 bucks also. model DEH-P47DH or DEH-P77DH

Pioneer head units

Plus, if you get the model 77 pioneer its XM radio ready (even though its not marked as an XM unit). Then when you have some xtra cash you could pick up the xm receiver and just plug it in. (I bought my Pioneer DEH-p77DH at BSless.com for 215. 00, they are by far the most hassle free online experience I've ever had. Their the cheapest, AND theres no sales tax, AND no shipping handling if you spend over 200. 00 and they ship immediately (unlike some of the flybynights on ebay... )

You will need the conversion braket for about 15. 00 and the plug in harness for another 15. 00. Changing decks can be done by a 5 year old. If you think you are at all iffy about this then consider purchasing your deck from crutchfield.com. They come with the bracket, harness and good step by step instructions. They are competitively priced as well. Good luck.

XM or Sirius, Definately......

If you spend any amount of time travelling in your truck, definately try to get either XM or Sirius. I have sirius and love it.

Another question?? What is the benefit of the Pioneer DEH-P77DH over just adding a CD changer to my existing stereo, like a Sony CDX-555RF? I guess I'm wondering if the Pioneer will give me better sound through my existing OEM speakers or would both setups sound about the same through the OEM speakers?

Thanks

pit bull,

I think that the most noticable improvement you could get would be to change out the EOM speakers. That alone wakes up your stock non-infinity stereo a lot. The OEM speakers sound like they're filled with mud.

Then add any one of the CD changers that uses an FM transponder to put signal to your radio through the antenna hookup.

That will give you CDs AND tapes. The Pioneer models mentioned don't have tape players in them, (or the '77 one doesn't anyway).

I have that Pioneer, Alpines, CD changer, sub stuff in our '97. Bought it all and changed out the speakers first. I almost stopped right there and returned the rest because the radio sounded so much better just from that.

(My favorite music is done by the Cummins Symphony and that fact has colored this post somewhat)

Thanks for the responses

I have the Radio - AM/FM Cassette - code (RASS) and speckers - four - code (RCDP) not the Infinite system, I had the Infinite in my 2000 and to tell you the truth it did not sound much better than the system I have in my new truck. But it did have the CD player that I liked. Do you need to replace all four speaker???
