What is going on with these things? They have exploded on the scene around here. People aren't even bothering to get the same color as their vehicle! Example.

And who do these fool? They're basically like 3D stickers... maybe they add more horsepower than normal stickers?

yes they do add more HP than the standard 2D stickers, but also make room for more stickers as the vehicle exterior surface area is increased :-laf

does the hp compound when you put a 2D sticker on a 3D one??? :-laf:-laf

Bet it shaves a few tenths off 1/4 mile times.

In all seriousness I'd like to get a hood with a small scoop just above the air box so I can get cooler air ducted in. I'd have to close it in the winter though.

To me, that's perfectly acceptable. But any "scoop" that installs with sticky tape and doesn't even have an actual opening in the front of it is just plain ridiculous.

And those Lund ones in the link are the WORST, and the most popular! I mean, they look NOTHING like a real scoop when they're installed.

The purpose of the stick on scoops is to improve the base response of the sub woofer and has a secondary benefit of getting more noise out of the tailpipe. They are absolutely mandatory if you have a rear wing to keep the car "in balance".

Most hood scoops are non-functional. Take Pontiac for example, the Trans Am's and GTO's had blocked scoops unless you got the Ram Air option. I think the same could be said for a lot of other musclecars in that era. Personally, I like the looks of a hood scoop, functional or not.

You're quite correct, but I think the problem these guys are having is that someone couldnt walk up and "steal" the hoodscoop off of a Trans Am :-laf

I think non-functional scoops are lame anyways (Mustangs, Trans Am, etc), but at least on those cars they came from the factory molded into the body. These stick on jobs are like the world's worst of the bad imitations.

I enjoyed the VW commercial where they took the ricer and swung it in the catapolt. that was pretty cool but other than that... . just not cool!!

If it doesnt need a hood scoop it SHOULDNT have a hood scoop

On my way home today I saw a Saturn 4 door with a massive cowl induction hood on it :--) It was of course primer grey and the car was bone stock, all I could do was laugh. :-laf

How do you know it didn't have a blower lurking under the hood along with header cutouts, just waiting to pounce on the first unsuspecting victim? :D

Does that include the SRT hood's? If so, I have an issue with your opinion.

ok, SRT scoop is a stock option, and they need it (kinda) so they are good, but a ford ranger with stick on scoops is a NO! :-laf

Spotted another one today. Late-model Chevy 1500 with a loud exhaust and 2 stick-on Lund scoops. At least they were color matched.

Using stick on hood scoops is sort of like buying fake muscles and sticking them under your clothes to impress the ladies.

Using stick on hood scoops and not color matching them to your vehicle is like buying fake muscles and sticking them on OVER your clothes to impress the ladies.
