Sticking and squealing

I have been having more difficulty shifting my automatic out of park into drive. Not sure if it is normal or is something going wrong. I have also noticed once in a while a high pitch squealing coming from what seems like the dash. I have XM radio and I use a garmin nav. system but they don't seem to be the source of the noise. Any thoughts.
