Just noticed on Thursday after I got out of truck the brake lights were still on. It was dark and couldn't see much so I wiggled some wires above the brake pedal and they went out. Checked again later on and all was well. When I backed into my drive @ home last night same thing.

Any ideas? Brake light switch most likely? Anyone know if the switch is available at the local parts places or, dealer only? Will be investigating later on today . . . after I check back here.

Thanks

Joe,

Sounds like the brake switch is the most likely. If it's like my '01 then it's not adjustable (I did cut slots in mine to make it adjustable), so if you replace it follow the directions closely. Could try some silicone spray on it to see if that fixes it temporarily. At least it's stuck on and not off - worst would be a dead battery - not being rear ended.

Picked up part #5016294AD List $17. 86 Net 12. 60 + tax. 2 beer job and Steve was dead on as far as following the instructions. It was very tempting to play with the switch prior to installing it. I noticed there were instructions in the bag and decided not to play with the switch before taking out of the bag. Once out of the bag and ready to install I even did the non-guy thing "read the instructions first", that's got to be a first. I added a tad of white grease on the plunger/pedal contact area. So all is well in brake light land and for only $13 +/-, of course that's not counting the unresistable "Cummins" hat which, by the way was more than the switch @ $13. 95. Oh, almost forgot - it's a dealer only item and instructions on the new switch body instructed "do not reinstall". This is the all time cheapest fix for anything so far that required a part.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. Hope this post helps someone else in the future.
