Gutting a cat

I have a DiPricol EGT guage from Geno's. I have had it for about a year and a half and no problems until about a couple months ago. The problem is getting worse as time goes on. When I am driving or towing, it operates properly. When waiting to cool down after getting home from work though, it will stick around 425. If I idle for about five minutes, then tap the guage, it will drop all the way to 375 or 350. It is not that far home from work to the trailer, so I can't imagine the turbo needing too much cool down time. While driving or towing, the guage will cool down just fine when decellerating, or coasting down a hill. It will go all the way to 200 by itself. The only thing I changed was to install an AFE a month ago, but the guage was starting to stick before that. Thanks for any input.
