I was looking at a set of K C type lights and the wiring kit with wires, switch and relay. So, can I just set it up with all the wirers going correctly and as for the power source go to one of the batteries for the hot. I dont want to tap or splice into anything, but be in total control of the on off. I am tring to read all the posts I can but still not sure, The new 01 and all the electronics scare me alittle so all the add ons have to be separate systems for me. Thanks for the Help. Terril.

Terrill, If you want a good set of lamps, you get what you pay for.

I've had the KC's, Cepeks, etc. which all fall apart after a few years. I paid the $$$ and now have the PIAA Pro 90's. The fogs are great for road use and do not offend other drivers, they really light up the road in front of the truck as well as out to the standard Low beam distance. The driving light portion are spot lights that turn night into day, unusable on the road. They are expensive, but a quality set. It took almost hitting a pedestrian for me to shell out the bucks, Dodge should be sued for the headlight set up that comes with the Ram. The PIAA setup come with a quality harness that hooks up directly to the battery terminals + and -. Relays and fuses are cased for longevity. Install is easy.

I agree with the PIAA being a good light. I had a set of PIAA driving lights on the old ford and they were great. The wiring harness was exclent to. I did not use it because I already had a harness on the truck when I installed the lights so I used the PIAA set harness on an ATV to supply power to extra lights and the PIAA harness has withstood the abuse an ATV can give out.

If you can build your own harness and what real nice lights that are quite adjustable check out Light Force Lights. They are adjustable like a mag light flash light. There are links to there website in the Swamp Donkey avoidance thread.

tbarrett,

if you should decide to go with the KC's, one suggestion. use the relay, but supply the relay "switched 12v+ lug (#86)with power from a source which is switched with the "ignition switch", then to your toggle switch, then to the relay. that way, if you should forget to douse the lights when you stop, they will go out when you kill the engine. fuse # 16 in the fuse box in the left of the dash is a free spot that is switched, and a good source to use to "trigger" the relay.
