My truck is still over heating i replaced the fan belt when I did the head gasket ive also replaced the thermostat with a 190 degree I removed the fan and clutch for the winter time so I though maybe I didn't store I right and the fluid leaked out so I replaced that to and its still overheating . Any ideas

I made a couple wooden wedges to lock the fan then I used electrical tape to hold them in place problem solved what are the chances of getting a new bad fan clutch .

I hope not!! That's what I was afraid of but this new clutch is not locking up at all even at 200 degrees it just free wheels that's why I tried wedging the fan solid you could tell just buy the noise difference that the clutch was not even engaging at all

Ya it takes a big load but at 26000 it should make a little noise

How clean is your radiator? A few '98 24-vaves have the blowby hose coming from the timing cover and it oil mists the radiator which gets it all caked up with dirt. Only real solution is pull the radiator to clean it. I don't have that issue since my 24V has the tappet cover blowby hose.

Also where did you get your fan clutch? Generally the ones from auto parts houses are not very good, better off getting it from Dodge.

my friend that owns a good radiator shop say to buy factory fan clutch, because the part house ones are junk..and fail a lot...just a little more info for next time..

Does it overheat running empty or only when heavily loaded? You can run these trucks solo with no fan at all provided your not running in stop and go traffic or low speeds

I'm hoping they will give me a new one I've only had it 2 weeks if it still doesn't work I will get one from dodge

+1 on what Vaughn said. Clean the radiator fins if you haven't. Blowby bottle or not, it'll cake up with bug guts and whatnot. Gotta pull it to clean it, since there are too many other coolers in the way.

From time to time when I look down between the coolers I have been able to see an accumulation of bugs and other stuff matching the size of the fan. I have usually been able to clear it with a lot of careful work with a hose nozzle flushing water through from the engine size. I have had it bad enough the AC would not cool when parked and idling

Like others have said, the radiator fins on your truck can be massively dirty even if they look OK. This is mostly due to the placement of the valve cover breather hose on the engine. A proper cleaning neccesitates pulling the radiator and cleaning from the back side.

Got a new fan clutch coming and if that's still not the problem I'll pull the coolers and radiator and pressure wash them I flushed the radiator again to see if there was anything still in there that didnt help any . Going heavy today I had to stop several times to let it cool down . Coming back empty it wild run up to the last line on the normal range of gauge but it wouldn't get any hotter light weight is 14180 today . So I'll report back tomorrow

The rad was in fact plugged like you all said looked good but it wasn't cost 20 dollars at the car wash to clean it . Good mechanic in town also gave. Me another interseting bit of info no matter how hot the radiator gets without air flow through it the fan clutch will not activate
