I have an '02 auto, 72,000, it keeps setting P0216 fuel pump timing error & P0237 map sensor #1 circuit voltage blow normal. The eng. light doesn't come on, but the QuicCheck II is keeping track of them. The MAP sensor & connector were replaced. What else can be causing it? Any way to check if the sensor is bad? The truck smokes like crazy and barely runs when cold. It clears up when it warms up. Could a bad lift pump cause the P0216 fault? I ordered a fuel press. gauge from Geno's, but of course its on backorder. I may buy a new lift pump today if I can find one locally.

What is the procedure for resetting the APPS?

Oh yeah, after the 3rd time back to the dealer, Orchard Chrysler in Romeo, MI says there's nothing wrong with the truck. And wanted me to give them $$ so they can continue to look at it, eventhough its still under warranty.

You should find a different dealer because that P0216 should point them right to the injection pump. There is a good chance with that mileage your lift pump is junk and took out the VP-44. Or there is a bad connection somewhere. You can make a temporary gauge with an AC charging hose and a guage. Look up Briar Hoppers test guage in the search

Kind of odd that a failing VP44 would throw a MAP sensor code as well. Sounds like a dead Edge EZ or other timing box.

I went through the same thing as you. First it was a dead EZ, got it replaced, then the 0216 code stayed around. Dead LP replaced, still got the 0216, then off to another dealer 3k miles later to have the new LP and the VP44 replaced.

The edge EZ was my first thought so it was taken off of at the first sign of trouble. Its been a couple of months now and 3 trips to the dealer. I found a LP at a Cummins dealer, 1/2 the price Chrysler wants. I'm going to replace it myself tonight. if that's not one of the problems, then I'll have a spare.

I would test the pressure of the lift pump, if it is bad it is a warranty item. On the other hand if your dealer tests it and it's ok then they will charge you a $90 diagnostic fee and a lift pump from Cummins is $150 so you're money ahead I guess just buying the pump. With the troubles you're having the dealer hasn't checked the lift pump operation yet? Definantely find a new shop!
