Dan said ( 9-16-02 ) he was mailing them out to all orders shipped with wrong fittings, still waiting patiently. Today is the 30th.

Well, I guess I will give them 1 more week, 3 weeks seems a reasonable time to make amends to me. After that I will handle it as a return. That seems reasonable. All I want is my air horns to work. That also seems reasonable. The order was placed Aug. 30th.

May I gently suggest you give them a call? You should have seen something by now. Though it would be pure, rotten luck for you, things do sometimes get lost in transit.

You have more patience then I do. When I received mine, I had one of the push connectors that just didn't seem tight on the 1/4" line. Needless to say it was on the "T" connectors to splice both horns togerther to the solenoid valve. I did what I wanted to do in the first place, went to the local hardware store and bought enough brass NPT/compression fittings and brass "T"'s to do the job. They cost about . 40 cents each and work real well. If you are going to do this, make sure you use the brass inserts on the line to stiffen it for the compression fitting.

The $400 was for the air horns, the compressor, the air reciever tank and wiring (relays) and hose & fitting kit. The problem is I have never seen these type of fittings so I don't know where to buy them. Once you use their hose, you must also use their fittings. If they are wrong, you cant finish, or even start. At this point I would recommend that anyone who wants air horns makes sure they they can rely on whoever they buy the product from. This is why I bought the "kit". I think now I would order everything except the fittings and relays, and get then on my own.

another week rolled by and no fittings. At this point I choose to handle it through our credit card company. Buyers beware.

WOW that is bad. When the owner posts and says he is going to fix the problem and then you get zip. Don't blame you, I would stop that credit card transaction. Thanks for the heads up on the way they do business.

my parting thoughts; The bottom line is "the customer is ALWAYS right". I learned this at a young age working for Italian immingrants who owned the grocery store where I worked as my very first job. Another of Joe Arico's (the big boss) sayings was "sometimes you got to be a prick to be a good boss. Maybe one or both applies here.

What I do know is if the business in question REALLY cares about their customers (instead of the mere IMAGE on this website that they care about their customers), they would take the time to admit they made a misteak, call the customer and ask what they could do to rectify the situation, and go about their business. I am the customer. Right now I don't care if they gave me everything for free, I will remain a dissatisfied customer, and that is never good for anyones business. The reason we all post here is to pass on experiance (good or bad) so some other member will not have to go through what I have. There was never any malace or intent to ruin Ricksons reputation. The last two weeks have been a little out of control here, today I took my wife to have a Biopsy test for cancer, after waiting seemingly forever to get an appointment; and now waiting for the results. Sometimes it would be wise just once in a while to extend a person a break, it's just possible that they are having a worse day than yourself.

90% end up being benign. I went through this with my wife and everything was OK. The worst part is waiting for the results. Good luck.

i'll second what Pit Bull said... ...

but it was rickson who had their site down for seemingly eons while we were pardoning their dust.....

I've been watching this since your first post to see the outcome since I plan on getting air horns at some point. Did you call them to let them know you had the wrong fittings or are you relying on them to figure out that you have the wrong ones? From what I've read it sounds like you haven't called them. It's possible that you were near the beginning or the end of those that got wrong fittings and they simply missed you, or they lost your invoice, etc. A quick 2 minute phone call to them may solve the issue and get the right parts on the way. If you called them to let them know and they still didn't send out the parts I'd like to know that so I don't make a mistake.

Emarsh, sorry to hear about your wife, wishing you both the best. Though this is a low priority now, when the time permits, snip off a short length of the supplied air line, I believe it was 1/4" O. D. , and go to a hardware/home depot, whatever is available. If you are running two horns, you will need one brass "T" fitting, which you can get in 1/8" NFPT. You will need two 1/8" NPT to 1/4 hose brass compression fittings for the horns, 3 more of the same for the "T" . Bring your solenoid valve and get two brass compression fittings for the valve, If I recall they were also 1/8"NPT, but check to be sure. Next is the run of hose from the solenoid valve back to the tank. Check the tank and get the appropiate sized compression fittings for same, could very well be 1/4" on the tank. This will get you to the tank and back out to the pump ( working backwards here). Last is to check the pump and purchase one compression fitting for it's outlet, that will run to the tank. It's either 1/8" or 1/4" NPT. Make sure you use the brass inserts, for lack of the correct term, which you place inside the air line to add stiffness and a good seal when using the compression fittings. Also, there's no reason that you can't use the push type fittings on whatever you have already received, with the compression fittings being used in place of the missing Rickson parts. If you can't find what you need, send me a list and I'll pick them up for you and ship 'em out with a receipt, you can send me a check when time permits.

We NEVER received a call from Ed, as he had said he was going to do in his initial post. I instructed everyone here on the Monday morning of the day that he was to call to NEXT DAY AIR him whatever he needed. I figured that it had been taken care of until someone alerted me last week that Ed was still posting on here. I then checked with our staff only to find out that he had NEVER CALLED US!

From the initial post, I could have possibly guessed what he needed, but he got a kit with dual separated horns and although I knew there was a problem with the solenoid fittings, it sounded like there was more than just that missing and I wasn't quite sure what else he needed. I called Ed myself last week and left a message for him to call me, and have thus far not received a call.

The 1/4" DOT air brake hose that we supply with the kits is compatible with any standard 1/4" brass compression fitting. The fittings that we supply are "Push-Lok" type rather than compression. These fittings are VERY expensive compared to a standard compression fitting and are used in industrial applications. An "assortment" would simply drive up the cost, but we do supply enough fittings for almost any imaginable installation unless someone was to do something really out of the ordinary. In that case, either compression fittings could be used, or additional Push-Lok fittings can be purchased either from us or from any industrial supply house that deals in tubing and fittings (of which there are plenty on the Internet). The tubing is simply inserted into the end of fitting and it's done. No leaks. We even provide a tubing cutter to ensure that the tubing is cut square, as that's the only requirement for a leak-free connection.

At this point, I'm going to send Ed what I "think" he needs. I just hope that my crystal ball is functioning properly this week. Ed was merely a phone call away from having what he needed three weeks ago. Even though we would have rather had a phone call prior to any postings on here, neither I, nor any of our staff would have treated Ed ANY differently if he had called and I'm sure everyone here would have been VERY apologetic about the situation and treated Ed just as nicely and with the respect that we would treat any customer, especially one where we messed up.

Again, thanks to those of you that have posted in our defense. We, of course, believe that the customer is always right and want to fix Ed's problem.

Sincerely,

Dan Richter, President
