Still waiting... Pics added

Nearly a month ago I posted a 911 that I had thrown a rod in my truck. With the advice of some forum members I contacted Rip at Source Automotive in Portland. He gave a few places to try and get a motor. We found one in a wrecking yard not far from his shop, so I went and took a look at it.

Round 1: Well this motor had almost as much damage as mine. The power steering pump was broke clean off, the injection pump was hanging on by the fuel lines, and the rear adapter plate was all cracked up.

Round 2: Rip said to try Shaun Vaught with Performance Engineering http://www.p-e-usa.com out of PA. The price he quoted for a long block was good, and Shaun said he would send it out truck freight that day, so I should have had it 5 business days later. I gave him 7 because of the Sept. long weekend. So after 10 days (weekend included) I didn't have a motor. Shaun claimed he couldn't find a tracking number as he was moving his office (made sense as his phone was disconnected for an afternoon). That Friday he claimed that UPS found the motor on a dock in Denver, and would be here Saturday or Monday. When we didn't find a motor at Rip's on Monday I phoned Shaun and he said that he will next day air a motor to Portland on Fedex. I thought WOW, as that would cost a couple thousand, but I guess he's been hitting Rip up to be a west coast distributor for some of his custom cummins parts, so he wanted to make right. As luck would have it he didn't make the truck on monday evening, due to the time. So I phoned Shaun Tuesday about 3 his time, and he said the truck was there and they were loading my motor. He even faxed over a bill of lading from Fedex. That evening I phoned every Fedex division to try and track this motor. It seems that the tracking number was not valid. I even got in contact with the local Fedex dispatch and they said that there was no pickups from Performance Engineering for the last couple of weeks. So surprise!! I didn't have a motor wed. morning. Shaun that SOB wouldn't answer my calls, or return my or Rip's messages. I was surprised that he would even fake a bill of lading! I went to a pay phone and the little #@$% answered on the 2nd ring. I knew he didn't have a motor and was probably stringing me on until he did, so I had a little fun with him. By the end of the call I caught him in several lies, and he was stuttering so bad he could hardly talk.

He must be rather wealthy to have time to play so many games.

If any of you guys decide to purchase anything from Performance Engineering, don't give Shaun a penny until you have his product, and don't hold your breath.

Round 3: I contacted Rodger Fordcummins.com. He said he had an 03 that should work for me, and he agreed to deliver it to me for what I thought would be the price of fuel to do it. I figured he must be going to nationals in Seattle this weekend. As it turns out the motor was a bout an hour out of Portland, and he was buying several at a wrecking yard for his conversions, and one of them was now going to be for me. This didn't bother me at all, as I figured I will get what I need. Rodger phoned about the time he was supposed to be at Rip's, with bad news. He said he pulled the head and there was water sitting in the motor, pitting the cylinder wall. I nearly punched a hole in the wall in Rip's office.

Round 4: Rip phoned around and he found an '05 motor that had lower milage, so we looked at an 05 block that Rip has in his shop and compared it to my 03. The casting numbers are the same, and it looks like it should be a simple swap. We also contacted Rodger and picked his brain a bit, and he told us what we need from the 03 to make it work.

Looks like I should at least get a bigger turbo out of the deal. I'll let you all know how an 05 runs with a 03 ecm, and edge attitude.

PS. The rod on the 03 let go in hole 6. There were no apparent injection troubles.

Round 4 cont: The retards at the wrecking yard let water get into this engine, and rusted up hole #1.

After all this I think I must have screwed somebody over bad in a previous life!

Round 5: What are the mechanical differences between a 2003/04 305 HO and a 235? If there aren't any I may have another motor lined up...

sorry about your battle with these idiots, if you still need a short block i can send you one from alberta. let me know if i can help Oo.

Shaun doesn't have a single penny! And I think RIP knows better now!!

Now I'll ask again... what are the mechanical differences between a 305 and 235?

It has been alllllll over the TDR over and over not to deal with that crook. He satrted out as Vaught Technologies, ripped a few off and moved to PA and become Erie Enterprises(?) and now this new name. Someone will end up paying him a visit one of these days if he rips off the right one.

Some of the components from 03 to 05 are not compatible and if its a Auto it will really Be a PITA . the 03 had a PCM which communicates to the ECM, also if the vehicle has the sentry Key the immobilizer and ECM will need a dealer Flash update.

ECMs are not interchangeable

Gave up waiting, and bought a 2006. I needed to get back to work after being jerked around for a month.

I'll eat the plane ticket to go visit Vaught, if you guys will put up bail ;)

Now for the carnage.

In the Long Run it was your best choice, Unless replaced with Identical component's and engine, future parts are a PITA,not to even mention the down time.

Yeh, I was going to be without a truck for at least another month, and I need the truck for work. Once the 03 is up and running, I'll beat it up at work and keep the 06 for standby. Pretty expensive... On the bright side I have one of the last 5. 9s without all of the pollution crap.
