I know this has been covered several times but a search yielded nothing beneficial. Exaust from my 93 has just lately began to smell like something other than diesel smoke. I have to shut it off to finish hooking up the 5th. wheel, it will gag you back there. Anyone remember some of the causes and remedies?

Thanks: Bob F

My thoughts would be a injector leaking down. This would be causing an over rich mixture on a cylinder. This would cause a different smell.

The general cause of making your eyes and throat burn is GASOLINE in the tank...

I've been around trucks with bad injectors, timing way ahead and way behind, and other issues. Bad injectors or low compression generally give you white or blue smoke, and/or a bit of a "sooty" smell, one that reminds you of the old two-stroke detroits.

If it burns your eyes and throat, suspect gas or other fuel contamination.
