Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel pressure gauge problem

Hey guys I finally put my gauges in my triple pod pillar mount. After installing the boost gauge I was shocked to see my boost go over 20 psi. I have read on this site people having a hard time just getting to 20 with no box or boost elbow. My buddy has a 01 and he runs around 15 but he says his never hits 20. On the highway it will stay at 24 psi if I keep on it. I wondering if the previous owner maybe uploaded a superchip in it and if so how do I test that? or is this boost level normal. I'm not complaining at all I just want to know what to expect before the comp box goes in. I havent hooked up the pyro yet so I dont know what temps Im running. Allthough 20 psi doesnt seem to be that impressive and I have always thought the truck felt a little slow. Any thoughts would be great.

First thing, is the gauge properly calibrated? Probably, so look at the map sensor. It is located on the right side of the engine, behind the fuel filter housing. It is a sensor with (I think) three wires coming into the harness. If it is the stock wiring to the sensor, than it is correctly connected. If there is any wierd adapter or hack into the harness, than the previous owner could have been playing.

Also, look at the wastegate assembly. Does it appear to have been tampered. I would assume that your '99 auto would have an hx35w (the hy's were on 01 and 02 if I remember correctly). Look at the bottom of the turbo on the front. There should be a little black short hose that goes into a round solinoid device, look for any damage to the hose, or something that looks like it was tampered with.

If your truck has an HY turbo, look at the wastegate (from the bottom). Is there a wierd looking s-hook connected to it (in a fashion that would disable it)?

Those are some inital things to look at.

i was at 24 stock and it threw a over boost code and defueled its self and only hit 22 psi. now im well over 45psi, think my lil stock hx35 will die soon?

I happen to have the same problem. 25 LBs stock. Flip you key switch on and off 3 times and you probably have overboost codes set and there for the ECM is defueling your engine. Its a real PITA to get the clip off the end of the wastgate actuator rod to try and turn out the adjustment on the actuator rod to try and get the wast gate to open a bit sooner to get rid of the extra boost. So in my frustration I did the plastic cure all and ordered a MAD CaTCHER! That oughta teach that pesky wastgate a new song or 2!! :D
