Today I was reading a diesel magazine I dont remember which one but it had an article about a dyno day event where a stock duramax went and its torque reading was 422 at the wheels and when he put the juice w/attitude on it measured 595 or so for torque, which I felt was awful. When I had my truck on a dyno last it only had exhaust and intake modifications and that ran 588 for torque with no juice or any comps... Why is there such a big power difference stock to stock I doubt the measely mods I had added that much power. Also a duramax went right after me and he pulled an awful number so bad I would have probably lit my truck on fire... but anyways I just thought it might have been the machine but if I remember correctly the duramax I saw and the one in the book ran similar. How can a truck advetised for 605lbs torque at engine lose almost 30 % to the wheels????

because that allison is an over hyped POS.

All automatics suck.

Dont start a transmission battle, I can almost guarantee everyone who owns a 6-speed manual will tell you the automatics are awful, and I am almost sure the auto guys will say the sticks suck, we all know there is definite pros and cons to each set up that only the driver can decide which is best for their style of driving. Not many people are willing to admit that there transmission is junk compared to the other because all of us payed a good chunk of cash for our rigs and no one wants to admit they might have made the wrong decision. But as I stated I feel it is each persons decision and there is never a correct answer for all buyers.

haha I agree stock on any truck is well... stock. But I am just marveled at how 2 trucks that have almost identical torque originally can have a 170 lb torque difference on a dyno.

mine was 588. 4 torque, and 312. 8, it did have BHAF and exhaust was opened, I know that helps a hair, I am sure a stock one wouldnt be much lower, a few here and there, and mine is a stick.

Stock Cummins plus stock 48re = really lame. Chipped D-Max will do nothin' but throw ya back in your seat, and probably pass a Cummins or two. The D-Max may not last as long, but ya gotta admit they sound cool with 8 cyl. and straight pipe! At least better than my 6 cyl. Cummins with that hideous nasally drone!

Need a 2nd gen to get a real sound... ...

Just dyno'ed my truck over the weekend, the only performance mod is the rokkteck muffler. Both were about 10% lower at the wheels than what dodge advertises. I dont have the sheets handy or i would give the exact numbers.

According to the sticker on the top side of my engine, it says 325HP and 610ft/lb. It is totally stock and the 48RE. Yes the 2nd Gen sounds a lot louder and better. But I have taken a couple of Duramaxs. :p Don't know what kind of set up they had though.

Absolutely correct here - Thank you!

As for the sound - Yep, my 12V sounded great, my '05 always sounded sick and the constant tick tick tick of the HPCR 3G was annoying as HE!!, never knew if you had or were getting an injector problem, fuel economy sucked big time, but the '05 would TOW circles around the '98.

Talk crap about the Duramax, but I got my *** handed to be the other day when I raced one. 1/4 mile, he had me by almost 2 truck lengths. Stock truck.

The 4. 10s didn't you much, other than spin the 35s.

I suspect the torque management system the D-max was part of problem for them on the dyno.

I think you'll find that you were out horsepowered - your setup I would doubt is probably not more than 260 HP... ... have you been on the dyno????
