Competition Suprised another sports car tonight!

Competition Tulare: BANKS Fiction

Last Wednesday, on the way home from work, I came up next to a Chevy Dura-max 4 door(a nice looking rig).

We were at a two lane merge to one about 300 feet after the light.

He leans over and puts on his seat-belt, so I know this is a race about to happen for the one lane remaining after the merge.

The light turns green and I slowly put my foot in it to raise boost.

In the first 30 feet he easily beats me, but when my boost hits 10# my Ram takes off. I beat him hands down to the single merge lane by 2 car lengths. The next light,we're back up against one another again, but this time, he doesn't even try. I win !

By the time that Duramuck and "Allison wanna-be" gets up to par with the Cummins... . we'll be making 900hp at the wheels. The longevity of the B-Series will NEVER be surpassed by any V-8... .

i have seen a bone stock dmax with 4inch exhaust and a paciffic chip run5. 8sec 0 -60 put the transmission in limp mode and still run 13. 9 1/4 . if they figure out this transmission problem im gonna get rid of my 12 second cummins diesel. not that the dmax will ever do that but the dmax has awesome power that can be cut off with the flip of a switch. if i do extreme hauling for long periods i gotta take out my injectors, then the chiped dmax has the edge. just my 2 cents

Well Clint at ATS has almost got it figured out. I think with what he has done with the Dodge auto. GM guys will be happy with what he is doing with the Allison. Last time I talked with Clint, his Dmax/Alli was holding up great with only 575hp and his couple of mods listed on ATS's website. Once he releases Level 2 I'm sure we will see more high hp Dmaxs and bigger chips.

I can't wait until they fix the transmission, I'm shooting for high 12's next year. Sun Coast is real close to a fix for the transmission too. My best time is in 4x4 (14. 24 at 90. 94 with a 1. 90 60') but I can get a 14. 38 in 2wd at 92. 87 with a 2. 22 60' with an open diff. Slicks and a locker and I'm the high 13's now. transmission has a real hard time holding the power I have now, doesn't always hold 5th, and it defuels at every shift. But still, not too bad for just a plug in box that only takes 3 minutes to install.

Did anyone catch the keyword in that paragraph I typed?

Longevity.

We'll see how many 1500° or 80psi passes the DMAX will make before it grenades... . we all know whice powerplant will win that war.

I'm not disagreeing with the impressive power gains, power is power... . and it's even better when it's running on #2... . The power they're making now is pretty good... . I wish them the best in getting more (and getting it to the pavement... ).

Interesting commentary on the Dmax. I gaurantee that the last man standing, er, the last engine running will be the Cummins. And so far, the only "edge" GM has is the Allison. Fine if you like sissy boxes behind your engine. Go get an Allison out of any medium duty truck and bolt it on your Cummins. For me, I'll stick to rowing my way through the gears to happiness. Not necessarily better, but my preference.

The 1000-series "Allison" in the GM's is barely rated for the DMAX... . nevermind a BOMBed one. It's too bad that the 740 and 540 series Allisons don't have OD... . I'd have one in my truck if they did... .

Gee this thread took an interesting turn... . let's try and NOT start a transmission/engine war... . :-laf

egt runs about 1300 pre turbo trough the1/4and boost stays below 30psi on the dmax i saw

Hrmmmm... . with that EGT reading it looks like that multivalve V-8 is able to flow some serious CFM's.....

Someone ought to port the heads, slap some shower nozzles in it, and put in a better camshaft..... I bet it would really wake up then..... I still have a feeling it's going to crap out once you really BOMB it... ...

Maybe this thing ain't so bad afterall..... - at least it's a GM and not a F*rd! :D

I hope it does make a boatload of HP in the long run..... it'll at least give the PSD and Cummins a run for their $$ in the HP department.

Don't you mean Isuzu? ;) :p

I agree, the only way to raise the bar is through good competition.

i tell you seeing the progress that this truck has made with a simple reflash and learning the weaknesses of the transmission it is unreal the progress the truck has made. bigger injects are next but only after about 2000 worth of transmission work. i dont think the transmission can handle injects until some work is done. also the dmax is down to 5. 1sec 60ft. it is just unreal how darn fast these trucks are out of the hole. get rid of the defuels between shifts and the limp mode between 4 and 5 and these trucks are gonna scare the twelves with no injects. ill keep you posted how this dmax progresses

Well actually I know of one Dmax that is getting the heads ported. Along with new larger injectors installed with a bigger turbo. I hope to check it out first hand around the end of this month.
