I'm trying to determine if the stock exhaust on my truck is stainless steel. I've searched, but all I've been able to determine is that a lot of you have custom exhaust systems on your trucks:D

I know that a magnet sticks to the tip, but I also know certain grades of stainless will attract a magnet.

Can anyone tell me what I've got? I want to clean/polish the exhaust tip and don't want to remove any coatings if the system is not stainless.

Thanks,

Todd

Not 100% sure, but I don't think the exhaust on the diesels is stainless. I looked at the sticker that came on my truck and no mention is made of stainless exhaust.

A-lum-in-ized

I always assumed the only reason the auto manufacturers went to stainless (in gassers) was because of the heat from the increased emissions equipment. I also assumed that, because of the oily nature of the diesel exhaust, the exhaust systems just naturally last longer. I agree with Mark's post as to the make-up of our systems. I was going to mention "aluminized" in my previous post but couldn't come up with it or spell it if I did :( .
