Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Last KDP question

I'd like to know what kind of horsepower and torque members are seeing on the stock motor when run on a dyno.

Also, anyone know of a place in the San Francisco bay area that they would recommend for dyno testing? I've seen several threads here about certain types of dynos not being accurate when it comes to the diesel motor.

Thanks.

Jeff, how much extra power do you think the 4 inch exhaust added? I've been told the HO already has a 3. 5 inch exhaust system on it. I'll have to crawl under the truck one day and measure it.

I guess the stock truck should turn out 220 hp? Maybe a little higher?

I'd like to see what the truck is doing before doing any performance upgrades as a baseline.

slo-ryde, My truck has 4:10 gears in it. There was a totally stock HO there the same day. It put down 226HP. I don't know what gears he had. Both trucks were 4x4's not that that would make a difference. Good luck with yours. It's fun to see where your truck stands compared to others. Jeff

On a Mustang dyno, I have seen bone stock ETH trucks do around 210 HP & 450 #'s TQ. Some as high as 230 HP, some as low as 190.

Dyno a stocker

I ran my 01 ETH DEE at B-D before I did anything. It was a total virgin truck at the time. I was able to put down a 244:eek: :D though the rear wheels. I was shocked. I talked to cummins about that # and they said that the injection pumps were in the bell curve. Some were higher, some were lower, but most were in the middle. Eric

My 2001 HO did 245 on BD's old mustang dyno, bone stock except for my POS K&N RE0880 filter. I don't know how it compares to their current one. On their new dyno the same truck did 352 with DD2s and vA box with stock turbo and 5" exhaust.

I recently dynoed my bone stock 2003 on the Mustang dyno at Shelley's Automotive in Spokane and put down 270hp/500 torque :)

Still looking for a place in the San Francisco area to take the truck for testing. I guess the truck should turn out something in the 210 to 230 hp range based on everyone's feedback.

Would the rear axle gearing change the horsepower ratings?

Not in theory. Remember the equation BHP = (Torque x RPM)/5252. What the gearing adds in torque, it gives up in speed (rear wheel RPM). The old adage is that you can multiply torque with gearing, but you can't multiply BHP.

My ETC put down 210. 5/454 stock - box off, BHAF and 5" exhaust. Sig reflects the fun numbers.

[edit]

WHOOPS, I stepped into a HO discussion. Oh, but wait I have some numbers here: --can't find 'em, but I think two stock HO's dyno'ed with us that day. I'll post a new one when I find my notes.

Completely stock, my truck laid down a truely unimpressive:

163. 2 Max HP; 318. 9 Max torque, (adj for altitude) on a Dynojet, 2-16-01 at 10:39:02 AM.

After adding, DD 2's, an 'EZ', and a K & N in the stock box:

271. 8 HP, 527. 6 Max torque, 3-27-01 at 1:58. 56 PM.

At present, I've yet to test my truck with my 'Edge Comp' on 5x5 with a completely "Built-up" '$3500' DTT transmission, + 4" exhaust.

The only problem is that now, my 'high pressure injection pump' is going out because of all of the 'mods' I've done. Yes, I'm depressed! :(

RobbyRam,

I would not be too depressed... your truck made exactly what mine did stock- 160 hp at the rear wheels. I also have a Y2K. From talking to a VERY experienced CTD dyno owner and fueling box producer in Indiana, every stock 24 valve that he has tested (which is a lot), dynos at around 150 hp. He does very precise testing under a loaded dyno (which allows a long, precise test run at full boost), and affirms that there is a LOT of variation among dynos. Anyway, mine dynoed at 370 hp on his machine right after doing a 14. 2 sec 1/4 at 94. 5 mph in Muncie. I have since stacked an EZ module with the PM III (and added 5" stacks!), and have (unofficially) run the 1/4 in under 14 at 98 mph. I am right around 400 hp. I'm always a little curious about why others running about the same times have hp numbers around 100 hp more than mine (there is some auto vs. manual variation). I think that when I am at 500 hp I should be in the low 13's if not high 12's.

Anyway, didn't mean to open a can of worms!:) I'm not sure, but I guess the 2001+ engines when stock are about 70 hp stronger than the the 98. 5-00 versions, if indeed they make 230 rwhp. Just my $. 02

looking at my dyno sheets right now and my stock 02 eth with 3000 miles on the tocker did 219/609@65mph and 224/586@75mph on a mustang

I beleive a 01 ETH is substantially stronger that a y2K . I ran a 1/4 mile stock fatser than a y2K with a VA and he had a 5 speed and me the 6speed. is it 70 more HP? Dont know but I bet its more than 50.
