Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Stock Injectors-How long do they last?

I have a friend that has 360,000 miles on his truck. It seems to still run OK.



For thoses in the know. Are they still functioning to specks or are they way past replacement time?

Good question.

I would like to know as well. I read somewhere that the aftermarket injectors, like RV275's, are already worn out to about 100,000 miles due to the extrude honed holes. They're honed by pumping an abrasive fluid through them to enlarge the nozzle holes. If this is the case, shouldn't the engine get stronger as they wear, provided the pop-off pressure remains constant?

Stock injectors are no fun so GET THEM OUT FAST and get big one in there. I wish I had the EDM's:{ I just have the DDII's

My friend has 1,200,000+ kms. on his truck (about 750,000 miles!)

The only thing he has done to the engine is replace the clutch for the first time, at 1,000,000 kms. He NEVER lets his truck warm up and always drives the crap out of it.

I believe what Jim said about wearing the holes bigger over time and getting more power. The truck smokes a lot more than when it was new, but he says it has way more power than when it was new. He said it would still easily outpull his stock 97 5spd with only 45,000 miles on it.

The RV275 injectors are not aftermarket injectors. They are OEM injectors for the stock higher HP 24v engines used in other applications. The extrude honed injectors are the ones that had an abrasive sent thru them to enlarge the holes in the tip for more flow.



The only real way to know if they are worn out, would to have them bench tested for the proper pop off pressure, flow, or spray pattern.



There isn't, to my knowledge, any specific mileage or number of hours they are good for. I have seen some that were shot at under 1000hrs of operation (in a commercial row-crop sprayer that wasn't taken care of very well). Depends on if the fuel system was properly maitained or not, and how well they are made in the first place.

I stand corrected. I should not have said "like RV275's". I was referring to aftermarket injectors like the DD series, which are in fact, extrude honed. Thanks for clarifying.
