Lots of smart folks here, who wants to talk investing?

I have been watching my large growth fund wallow for a couple years now, is it smart to move the cash somewhere else and realize a loss. . moving it to another sector/fund or continue to invest on the low side and enjoy the rise later.

To me, it would depend on how soon you are going to retire. Also depends on what company it is, (sector) and what the outlook for the sector is.

If you have time on your side... I would let it alone, providing the company is a stable one.

Large cap growth and value funds trail the small cap funds in an expanding economic cycle, so they're due for an uptick - or so says my financial advisor. :eek: If you moved to a small cap fund at this point, you might be buying at the peak, but who knows... . :(

My international funds have performed well over the last 3-4 years as has my company stock (oil and gas equipment manufacturer). S&P 500 index fund has been OK, but I bought back in a few years ago when the Dow was around 7900. Bond funds and large cap funds have trailed relative to these others, as you note.

Ditto to what Rusty said on International funds,These are the only things making me money at the moment in my 401k. :{

I'm still 20 years out from needing the cash.

Actually an intl fund was my 1st choice, but the opportunity to continue to invest (in the domestic/large growth fund) on a downslope is powerful. decisions - decisions

That's odd you guys have had good luck with international funds. Mine has not realized a gain yet this year it's down almost 2%. I just moved out of it about a week ago into my growth fund (LMP Aggressive Growth, class Y). I'm still waiting in my company (AV) stock to go up so I can lean myself out of it. I'm holding way too much for the return I'm getting. we just hired a new CEO but fell short on this past 1/4's earnings so I took another hit two weeks ago on it AGAIN.

OK, I want to be sure I am getting this right. I should invest in stocks that do all of their business and investments overseas thereby further hurting the US economy and outsourcing even more US jobs. This kind of thinking eventually will make US the third world country that so many desire but oh well think how far it will spend at that time. It's all about who can make the most right? Our trade defecit with China already runs in excess of 100 billion. Anyone remember when Nikita Kruschev said that given enough time the West will sell us the rope that we will hang them with? On a lighter note,does anyone know what would the stock market have to hit today,figuring in inflation,to meet or exceed it's all time high of 11722?
