Can anyone tell me how much more horsepower a 215 pump makes with the stock plate slid all of the way forward from the stock position. Also the AFC housing and the starwheel are all of the way forward as well. This would also be with the timing at 18 deg. but a rough number will do.

Thanks,

Doug

HP#

It will gain you about 200hp and 400ftlbs of torque over stock. OK maybe not that much you will see about 40 to 50 hp more than stock, thats ok until the bug bites you, then hold on to your wallet its endless. :--)

I did this test on a 97' 5 Speed, dyno before was 170/351. I shut it down and slid the stock plate almost full forward added a boost elbow and bumped the timing to 17 and it did 250/491. Same dyno, same day, 2 hours apart.

That same truck is at 496/1049 with the same stock turbo.

Yeah but can't you PEG the gauge on hard acceleration 3rd and 4th  How can you possibly be making that much power on a stock HX35 and NOT fry the motor extra crispy style

Snowperformance Stage 2 kit:p

If you make a run without water going from 3rd at 2K to the top of 5th you will get about 1800 out of it, turn the water on and she's about 1500... ... or was when I did the testing. It does have an 18. 5 housing on it and still sees 40 psi so a 21 is in order (have it). The plate does have some de-fuel in it so it's not so toasty on top.

Not a bad running truck and I've been more than impressed with it, now I need to pass on my tricks to it and see were it goes but the Con O is past it's limit.

Here is the sheet... ... ... . correction on the T/Q number

I HAVE JUST FINISHED BUMPING MY TIMMING FROM 13. 5 TO 15. 5, SLID PLATE MOST OF THE WAY FORWARD, ALSO SLID THE AFC HSG MOST OF THE WAY UP AND TURNED STARWHEEL ALL THE WAY OUT. TRUCK DOES SEEM TO RUN A LITTLE BETTER UNLOADED. IT ALSO SMOKES MORE. I ASSUME THIS TO BE NORMAL. COUPLE OF QUESTIONS, THOUGH. WILL I NOTICE IMPROVED PULLING POWER W/TRAILER HOOKED UP? EVERYTHING GROSSES OUT AT JUST OVER 17,000#. WILL I INCUR EGT'S THAT ARE A PROBLEM? AM I EXPECTING TOO MUCH TO BE ABLE TO PULL THIS SET-UP AT 70-75 MPH IN 5TH? I WAS ABLE TO DO THESE MODS AND TAB MY KDP BECAUSE OF WHAT I READ IN THE VARIOUS FORUMS AND LETTERS ON THIS SITE. THANKS TO ALL AND I WILL CERTAINLY WORK TO GET NEW MEMBERS SIGHNED UP. JIM.

Welcome to the TDR! :)

BTW, FYI, typing in ALL CAPS is considered yelling and more difficult to read.

Before you made the changes, I hope you have a pyrometer to watch EGTs. Hate to see ya melt down a piston.

Welcome to TDR!!

Ditto on the gauges. 17k and some good hills might get it toasty. A good pyro and boost will let you see if you can run it that way.

My . 02 :)

If anyone is sliding there stock plate you need to do one of two things other than install gauges, either add a boost elbow or disable the wastegate, I like the elbow best because it still lets the gate work!

Jim

What exactly does the elbow do and where does it go and where can I get one? I am assuming that it lets the boost come up higher then stock. On a hard run (unloaded) I was only able to get 1100 degrees pre turbo and 24 lbs of boost.

Elbow

Hello Doug, the elbow replaces the stock brass elbow on the turbo compressor housing. What it does is restrict the amount of boost pressure that gets to the wastegate actuator to cause it to open the wastegate.

A wastegate elbow comes with most aftermarket fuel plate kits and 24v fueling boxes. I have several elbows alone and fuel plate kits in stock. PM me if you want one. I'm not too far away from you, about 1. 5 hours north.

Hope this helps, Greg L.

Sorry about the caps. Not very good at typing yet. I had ordered a set of gauges, but they did not arrive before I tore into truck. My wastegate was unhooked, but I hooked it back up during the work. I gather I shoud unhook it again. What kind of temps should I try to maintain or stay under? How much boost shoud I see? Does more boost lower the EGT's. This truck has 170,000 miles on it, is this going to be too rough on this high mileage engine? Truck has been well taken care of and uses no oil. thanks again for the help and advice. Jim.

170k is not a problem to start bombing if it is in the shape you say. Started bombing mine @ 110k to 342hp, at a little over 200k went to 400 and ran good till I killed it @ 436k. I hot shotted for a living and ran 4 to 5k loads on the bed and up to 35k with my trailer regularly. Seems these motors love power and to run hard.
