Well, my steering wheel started flopping from side to side, and since the front end was just rebuilt 30k ago, I took it to the shop that rebuilt the FE. They said the steering coupler was mush, so I researched the Borgesen. I owned a 96 Cummins 4x4, AT, 3. 54 before I bot the 93, because I could'nt afford the acquisition cost, and what it would have taken to make it nice. My guess is a lot of first genners would prefer a second gen truck, but cant quite afford it. The question of affordability once again raised its ugly head, and with the stock steering coupler and related parts at the s****** for $85 versus the borgy for $225, I went with stock. Hey, the stocker lasted 235K, and it feels like a new truck, so I did it with no regrets.

Amen brother. Good point on the stocker lasting.

Not this 1st genner... As James would say 1stgen4ever. Bill

I guess you don't want to know that you could have got a rebuild kit for the coupler from the dealer for about $20 (or so I've been told). I put the Borgeson on and have ZERO regrets. I've owned this truck for the last 160K miles and the sterring is better now than it ever has been.

Just my $0. 02

Carl

Yes the rebuild kit was $20, but the actual coupler (steering box) was $60, and if the parts that go inside arent tight, you need a new box. Mine was completely shot.

I replaced my coupler when I bought my truck 6 years ago. I will need a new coupler around next spring. For the price of the borgeson. I can replace mine a couple more times with a stocker.

I have put 60k miles on mine sence I installed it.

Right on bill; nothing but first gens here too!

I went with the borgesen a long time ago. With the 4wheeling I have done, I have replaced the steering box at least 3 times and the plate twice. I have only put the first borgeson on with the first box. A good investment for what I do with my truck. The larger mud tires, the frequent off road excusions, I'm sure I would be putting the stock stuff in often.

Not flaming you in your desicion. I would be with you if the first one lasted so long. I put the first steering box on at 45,000 with the borguson though.

Michael- one of the many members of first gens FOREVER!!!

If I off roaded a lot like you do. I would swap mine out also. I have seen the stock coupler pull apart on extreme flex before. My truck spends most of its life on road. The stocker is enough for this type of app.

At 137 K miles, my stock steering shaft is nice and tight still... but then again my truck is a 2wd ON-road machine. The only off roading I do is going into the shopping mall parking lot!:D
