Would sliding the stock torque plate gain you anything? I am going to install the 235/605 plate sometime late summer of early fall, but I was wondering it moving the stock plate would gain torque. This would be a temp fix just to add some torque to the truck.
What do you think!!!!!!

Rick,

I was told by a diesel shop that they wouldn't use an aftermarket plate. They slide the stock plate forward and then tweak the pump. That would seem to imply that there is some hp gain by sliding the stock plate forward.

How much cab noise do you get from your Psychotty? I've been kicking it around, but I figure with the filter purchase and renting the saw, it'll probably set me back around $230-$250 clams.

Thanx

Rick,

Absolutely. There is a ton of horsepower to be had from sliding the stock plate forward.

I hope MY6 will see this and chime in hear. Before he bought all the goodies to BOMB 'correctly', he made somewhere around 350 hp with a stock plate and stock injectors.

Keep an eye on that pyro. You don't get a custom fuel profile for different RPM's like you will with a new plate. You are just going to add fuel to all rpm ranges. Watch the temperatures in the upper rpms and you should be fine.

I would recommend sliding it all the way forward. Then, when that is not enough, cut the slots on the camplate to allow the plate to slide even further forward.

Some may frown on this method because no vendor makes money, you can email me any further questions.

Yes there is hp and torque to gain here. I varies from truck year to year. The thing to remember is how much do you want. You can do the same to an aftermarket plate to.
Be for real about putting a pyro in.
Good luck. The limit seems to be injector size. Then You have to go to the aftermarket for the ultimate pump. I went with Piers. I went from around 350hp to 500 with just the pump and stock 370 bosch injectors. The problem now is breakage and turbos. You need 2 after that step. Besides finding every week link in the d train constantly now. I guess it'll have to be not my only driver. #ad

I use the truck as a daily driver and also pulling a 5th wheel. So the high numbers(hp/torque)would not be something that I would want to do. Like I mentioned in my first post, somewhere around the 235/6-700 would do for what I am trying to gain.
What I am reading, the custom plates are designed for the upper rpm band, but the stock is good thru the entire rpm range. If that is the case why not use the stock plate instead of a custom? I would rather had power thru the rpms instead of just on the upper end. With towing you don't know what rpm's you may need just that little extra amount of power that may not come in with the custom plate until the higher rpms. I would like to see some dyno numbers of the difference between a stock plate and a custom plate. One showing the stock position and another with the plate slide forward.

I've done all that dyno testing. Too much data to post here, but you can check old posts because this question has come up dozens of times and I have tried to help each time. Here is a summary. You can't move the stock plate enough to help near as much as a TST plate, in the mid range especially. Any prolonged running over 2400 rpm will give way excessive egt if you shove either the stock or TST plate forward. While it's true you can get fairly impresive peak hp numbers by moving the stock 215 plate, the mid range power and torque are far less than you would get with a properly reengineerd plate.

Thanks for the information. Mr. Donnelly, you answered the questions and confirmed my fears of moving the stock plate and pulling hard with it that way. I will install an aftermarket plate. .

Thanks guys for the input
