My truck has 31K miles on it as of last week, so far this has been one of the best vehicles ive ever had. Hasnt been back to the dealer once except for an oil and filter change (yes, i am that lazy to change my oil and fuel filter). I am also fully aware that my stock trans is a POS but so far until yesterday it has performed flawless. When i jumped in my truck after work my trans felt real sluggish..... like i was starting out in second gear, lots of RPM... no speed. This has happened a couple times when i park my truck at an angle in a driveway but i usually let it sit for 30 seconds and its fine. This time i let it sit for about 1 minute... same thing..... started off like it was in second but then it wouldnt shift. Took it out of drive and put it into first... same thing. Then like magic it jumped into first. Revved it up till about 2800 RPM and still no shift... . then for no reason it shifted after about 30 seconds of that. Stopped at a stop light..... started off in what felt like second gear again... . did this nonsense for about 15 minutes. Stop... checked Fluid... ... everything looked good. Jumped back in... truck drove kinda sticky for 5 more minutes and then everything is normal again. What could possibly be the problem... Dirty fluid or filter... at what mileage should i change that. I slipped the converter once that i know of when i first bought my EZ but that was 6 months ago and havent slipped it again. Please help... . just dont tell me to buy new trans... . not yet anyway... . !

Aloha... .

Thanks in advance

I talked to Bill about your post and he said basically the symptoms you are describing sounds like 2 different problems.

1) Definately sounds like lack of oil.

When checking your transmission oil, always check it when the transmission is warmed up. When you check your dipstick one side will read higher than the other always use the low side for your accurate reading.

The other problem would be electrical, most likely the governor solenoid which can be replaced without removing the valve body but you have to remove the pan.

A shop can tell you based on pressure readings whether you have a governor solenoid or governor pressure sensor issue .

Your governor pressure should increase with vehicle speed, ie

10mph should = 10psi

20 mph should = 20psi ect.

Use only OEM parts only for these applicaitons , we have tried the aftermarket ones and they hold up even less time than the oem ones .

Takes about 1/2 hour for a professional shop to diagnose and about one hour to change the solenoids.

Part # for OEM governor solenoid is 4617210

Governor pressure sensor for your truck # 56028196AA

transmission now wanting to upshift can also be caused by the transmission output sensor #4800879

I have a really good customer down there that is in the navy and has a pressure gauge that does his own work , tdr member goes by loneram. He might be able to give you a hand getting it figured out. Not sure what he's up to these days.

Thanks Stefan and thank Bill for me too. I got an appointment next week to have the dealer check it out... might as well get something out of my warranty while it is still in affect. I thought maybe the filter was dirty and is finally sucked some junk into the valve boady and gummed everything up... then when it heated up, the sludge moved on to bigger and better place... . :(

Thanks again for the help!

on target

The analyis of Governor Solenoid and Gov sensor is dead on.

You will probably display codes:

1757 and 1762.

These are the exact symptoms I have and codes.

Instead of starting off in Drive, manally put the selector in 1st start rolling and the n put it in D skip 2.

and it will start off in 1st that way instead of second. Just temporary way to drive until you get it fixed.

Good luck.
