Stock Transmission

My friend just bought a 4. 5 with the auto and he wants to put either 100hp injectors or a edge comp box with the display screen for his gauges. He is wanting to know how much hp the stock transmission will hold. I told him just do the chip if anything because at least you will have your gauges for a later time. Or will it hold the chip and injectors with out having to baby the transmission.

Sounds like your friend might want to consider beefing up the transmission. If he is talking 100hp injectors, and a box on a new truck, you know he isn't going to stop there. I wouldn't go much over 70hp on a stock 48re, just my . 02 and expierience. I had clutch wear from a simple Edge EZ set at 4, just running back and forth from work on my stock 48re.



I would tell him to look at the ATS Stage 3, or the equivalant from BD-Power or DTT, minimum. And tell him to not skip the transmission lock-up controller. Commander from ATS, BD and DTT have similar devices with less features. This will help hold those clutch paks together.

Thanks mike this is his first real truck and he said that is all he is going to do to his truck. LOL. So you think that 100hp injectors are going to be to much. What kind of $ are we talking about transmission mods.



AKAMAC the hunting has been slow but last week shot the @#^% out of the spoonies but know we are all frozen. What about down your way has it been good.

It ain't cheap. Figure around $3500. If he does the injectors, he may need to install one of the ATS exhaust manifolds. He is going to be generating a little more heat, then he may as well install a new turbo... You see where this goes? I would stick with a mild fueling box, until the transmission is upgraded. Or, if he has to have injectors, Jannetty Racing has some nice 80hp injectors for $700 + 700 refundable corp deposit. Those are the injectors that I have, but it would be cheaper to just go with a fueling box. And I would keep it under 100hp. Again, just my . 02
