Is it normal for a stock HO 03 to pull 35% restriction on the filter minder? This seems high. On my trucks if they pull that much I start looking for a problem in the filter.
It is normal. Probably a more sensitive indicator than my old truck. When it drops below the 35% I will start looking for a new filter. But it has been pretty consistent since new so I don't worry about it.
Mine was doing that. Service manager told me they had been replacing the indicator on some and it fixed that problem. They replaced the top part of the air filter on mine cause one of the prongs broke off when I opened it up. I don't know if that really was the problem caused I replaced the filter with the AFE. But it did not suck it down on the way home.
Rather than replacing the indicator which hides the problem, just get an AFE replacement filter. You'll be very happy with the results, IE; quicker throttle response and it never sucks down the filter minder.
I posted this before, but I will do it again. I simply cut a 4 inch hole in the bottom of the air box. It now feels like the turbo spools up faster, and i can definatley hear the turbo. The bottom line is the indicator never drops like it did before.
My truck was built 2nd week in march and I cannot get filter minder to move even after WOT runs. I believe they have changed the specs on the filter minder to a heavier spring model.
Stronger spring - sure sounds like a plan to me - an even BETTER "solution" is to simply squirt a little Krazy glue down into the filter minder - THAT will keep it from EVER moving - and make you feel REAL good...
Lessee - we have temperature guages that merely read "what the customer wants to see", instead of the REAL temp - same for the oil pressure - now stronger filter minder springs, instead of providing the LARGER AIRBOX AND FILTER ELEMENT the engine REALLY needs...
Dodge musta hired a few of the "engineers" now leaving Ford like rats off a sinking ship...
Speaking of temp gauges-from the 2003 owners manual-outside air temp sender is located in the engine compartment and may read high until you reach 25 mph. I wonder how close to the exhaust manifold the sender is?:--)
I still had my 2001 air box laying around with filter minder and all. So I swapped in the 2001 filter minder into my 2003 air box, it don't budge. This will save me big money on air filters.
Ifn I recalls, the temp sender is by the left (drivers) headlite when hood is open. Looks like a connection hanging there. The y2k's ere in the center of the hood on the grill and would read high for about 5-10 miles (depending on outside temp).
Course the sun cant affect it just the hard driving to get it to read close... ... ... .
has anyone one used a K &N air filter or any other type of aftermarker air filter? Are they worth the extra bucks? Do you feel a difference from the stock air filter?
