Competition NADP August Blackout Results...

I figured you guys could probably answer this pretty easy.

I have a totally stock 2001 3/4 ton Dodge / Cummins HO

and a 6 speed.

I think I am getting very high exhaust temps,

I can EASILY get 1550+ degF or more towing.

I can get 1100+ empty going up hill empty.

Some guys say they only see about 1300 degF max while towing.

I guess I have two questions for you guys.

One does that seem right?

Getting 1550 degF really easy pulling ?

And some guys say they're turbo is a light brown, like

a the color of straw.

Mine is more purple in color then anything. (have pic if you want to see)

Is this right ?

Thanks,

Pete

Ya it's still around but I don't pull to much with it.

Here are a few pictures of whats going on.

Note the purple / blue near the head and towards the

#5 cylinder area.

And alot of people have said it should be the color of

straw. I always thought straw was a light brown. :-laf

If I put the 5th wheel on it and get on it pretty hard

I can get the EGT's up over 1550 in less then a minute. :--)

Let me know what you think.

I can't get the really good pictures to upload for some reason.

Look at the manifold between the number 4 and 5 cylinders

All the cylincers have this around them, some more the others.

Yes, Yes, my son. I would say you are very hot. Problemente mucho caliente. Is it possible the manifold could be faulty in material around that area. I don't know but that does not look healthy.

And the color of straw is a light brown in Georgia, but purple in Wyoming.

. . Preston. .

ROTFL! That was funny.

I know it's not healthy but Dodge won't do anything. They say

thats good but should be even more purple. WHAT????

I talked to Cummins, they think maybe my exhauset is blocked.

They want me to put a straight pipe on it and pull with it.

I have no problem with that but wonder why I have to pay

the $250 Midas wants to remove my muffler and resonator(so it can be put back on)

and put the straight pipe on.

I figure this should be under warranty.

Do you have a boost gauge? If so how much are you making? If you have a boost leak or plugged air filter it will cause the same problem (high EGT's). Check all the hoses, clamps, disscharge elbow off the turbo and at the aluminum manifold by the grid heaters on the head for faulty gaskets. Does it seem down on power?
