Hey guys,

a buddy of mine just hooked up with this company-

www.networkcar.com . It has an online tracking map that you can use anytime to track wearabouts wether the vehicle is stolen or not . also has the ability to show mpg's, engine diagnostics and you also get roadside assistance included. All for a very ,very low monthly fee, less than $10. The unit cost a little more than the top of the line alarm plus about 1/2 hour install.

If you go to the website, scroll down past the fleet management and click on "Easy Vehicle Monitoring for Consumers with Networkcar -learn more"

I wont see this system (the hardware) in person till later this week but I have been given a password to access the site and it is good. If You need more info, contact John Foy at -- email address removed -- or call 732-618-0800. I have no affiliation with afore mentioned other than it is the best tracking/recovery unit I have ever seen. I just spoke with John and he is also going to see if it will work on streetbikes. Lets see them steal my truck now. They may get it but they arent going to far :-laf

What about this product is better than the Lo Jac system? Seems to me that satellite/GPS based systems are much easier to defeat. Arent the antennas easier to find? Once the antenna is disabled, then your locating system is disabled, right?

Also, Lojac works in parking structures, and the lo-jac unit/antenna are mounted in a variety of places, so the thieves need to look extra hard to fins them and take them out. This is made more difficult by the fact that Lo-Jac has no external antenna to start with. I didnt noice anything about a battery backup in case the car's battery is unhooked either? Just a thought. If i had he cash to spend on anti theft, I would go with lo-Jac. The police in my area have the lo-jac trackers in their car. I dont sell Lo-Jac, or anything else. Ryan

In reality there should not be extra cost to the consumer for theft devices such as Lo-Jac an others, it's all about money. Why not incorparate a chip at time of manufacturing with code or vin. You see this super small chip they implant in pets. Even see were Walmart is starting to place chips in the products they sell for tracking purpose's. Actually the vehicle manufactures an insurance company's could get together on this, low rates, etc. I believe there are several things that could be done to help out the average working individual, but boils down to the almighty dollar.

Sootscooter,

this product is totally different than the Lojack. First, YOU have access to all the information that the product has. You see the exact position of your vehicle on a world wide map, then YOU call the police and tell them exactly where it is. The map is about the same as MapQuest, you can zoom in to about 5 city blocks per inch. I consulted John and he said there is no antenna leading me to believe it probably uses the existing radio antenna but I will check into it further. As far as the back up battery, he is checking into it. It has been selling in the dealerships and the buyers are using it to track the wereabouts of their "children drivers" as it maps out the last 30 stops of the vehicle. My neighbor is a police officer and has LoJack receiver on his police car. They only found 2 cars in 5 years with it. (7 with Lojack have been found but 5 never showed on there Lojack scanner).

Chris- Im not tryin to bash the product. I work in LA and can tell you from experience, Lo-Jac recovers vehicles. I have been present on numerous occassions when cars are recovered within the hour. I have also probably participated in over 30 recoveries in the last two years alone. I have answered calls from companies like ON Star who tell us where the vehicle is, using very similar technology. I have yet to find one of these cars. I guess to sum up, if you lived here, and had asked me (like you did your neighbor) I would have told you that Lo-jac is the only way to go. You may not be able to track your kids (or your wife),it doesnt have the bells and whistles, but you have a great chance of getting your car back. And in many cases you get it back before is stripped.

I use this product to find were the kids are. Imagine the surprise when you tell her she was not at her girl freinds over night.
