Just picked up my truck from the local DTT builder (James Northum) this morning - HOLY SMOKES! My truck has 120K miles on it and I should have had this done 115,000 miles ago!
I asked James to do a custom "livestock" hauler version of the valve body so it wouldn't bang the shifts too harshly - and it's PERFECT! Just a solid PUNCH in the back at each shift and an outlaw grin all over my face! Light throttle around town and the shift firmness is similar to a new stock transmission (firmer but similar) but the shift thresholds are timed better. Half to 3/4 throttle and lookout! This 7600 lb truck just leaps forward when it hits the next gear! I haven't tried WFO yet.
He installed:
DTT torque converter assy
DTT Billet direct clutch piston upgrade
DTT Intermediate servo assembly
DTT Billet accumulator piston
DTT Billet band apply lever, strut, and anchor
DTT overdrive clutch pack upgrade
DTT custom upgraded valve body
DTT Billet input shaft and drum
DTT noise filter and voltage requlator
Mag Hytec double deep pan
and many gallons of Amsoil ATF+4
OBTW - this upgrade was made possible by the fact that the stock torque converter broke one of it's mounting lugs off while pulling my 5er - one of the six bolts that hold the TC to the flex plate just broke off! Looked almost like the base metal on the TC wasn't hot enough when the lug was welded on - anyway... it came off and I though I was throwing a rod when it happened - almost had to have a new seat cover installed! Har!
Looking back - if I was purchasing a new truck, I would have an aftermarket torque converter and valve body done as soon as I could. It was a lot of money, but I'm glad I spent it! Now to see if I can keep from ripping the gooseneck off my 5er! Gotta go!!!
