Get a power source in there so the battery doesn't discharge. They make some that are solar powered and if you can put the cell outside you won't have to have someone recharge the battery. I'd also drain all the fluids and replace them before the truck was started and used. But if you need someone to watch it and occasionally drive it cross-country...

My efforts would be a little more radical.

1) Your fuel will be garbage no matter what kind of stabilizer you use. If possible, drain out all the fuel.

2) As far as the batteries, remove them and set them aside because even with a tender, they'll go dry and sulfate or leak and damage your truck.

Of course the best thing would be to have someone drive it every

Finally - be carefull over there ok?

You could always have a fellow TDR member that lives in a hot , dry climate babysit the thing for you while you are gone, oh yeah ,I live in a hot dry climate now , don't I ?? Take care over there!! Mark:cool:

Get more fuel Stabilizer in the fuel and try to get it down to about an 1/8 of a tank.

Change the engine oil and filter.

Wash and wax the car.

Remove the Batteries.

Silicon the door and window seals.

Make sure there's no food left in the cab.

Be very careful over there!

When you get back fill up the tank ASAP and check for rodent snake and insect nest under or in the truck and you will be good to go with a very low mileage 03 Cummins!

Be Safe !

RELATED QUESTION:

How long of a storage time requires these precautions? I had planned to park my truck in the garage for about 4 months, starting in November. No freezing in the garage. Do I need to remove the batteries and stabalize the fuel for storage of just 4 months? If not at 4, then when is it necessary? Thanks.

statement i made to the wife "all this info i get by being a diesel internet junky helps others. "

CUMMINS STATES:Whenever an engine has been inoperative for more than 30 days, Cummins recommends disconnecting the wire to the fuel shut-off valve and cranking the engine until oil pressure registers on the gauge before starting the engine. This practice will prevent "dry starts" and allow oil to bearings and shafts prior to starting the engine. A toggle switch can be wired into the starting system for this.

either drain the tank or fill it to the very top to eliminate as much o2 as you can then add some stabilizer.

Glad to hear that I am not the only one having to leave my baby while I head overseas. Good to know information. I hope you are taking care over in Iraq. I am heading to Afghanistan.
