Competition WOW, Christian makes a (??.??) @ 118! Is it for real?

Competition highest HP

Well a quick post on the info I have received on the Englishtown race this weekend. Jeff Garmin from Southern Truck Parts in Atlanta GA treated the crowd and won the event with an 11. 7 best (this is with no waterbox burnout as it was missing). As I understand it the crowd was large at this race with lots of trucks racing. Seems as though there was only one truck there that was even close to Jeff and it ran in the upper 12's..... All the remaining trucks were running 13's-17's.

I am sure there is a lot more info than this so if anyone can add anything please speak up. I would like to personally say "Great Job" to Jeff for a job well done and for promoting the diesel performance industry!

Here is what I know...

Jeff had low ET of the the event. At first there was to be no nitrous at all, then they decided the "little trucks" could run it. As most know, Jeff doesn't run any drugs and layed down a couple of 11. 70's. This was for the "pro class" in pickup diesel. There was also a street class for pickups.

Estimated 31,000 folks in attentance. :--)

Autowurks was there but I think they did not run as fast as they had hoped.

Jeff said the facility was huge and that there we more people there than he could believe.

Great Job to Jeff and Southern Truck Parts.

I was there and saw that white STP truck run...

Not to mention seeing the 7-second jet Kenworth, 5-second jet dragsters, monster trucks, girly girls... . it was an awesome day!

We had our big old canopy setup right inbetween STP's trailer and Doug the Detroit Diesel guy's truck in the pits. They were nice folks... hope they liked our food! :)

That STP truck would push right through the brakes at the starting line... and would have MASSIVE amounts of wheelspin all the way through the 330' mark.

There were many impressive trucks and TONS of eye candy all day long and well into the night.

Can't wait to go to Epping, NH next weekend and see a smaller version of the Truckin' Nationals that was at E-Town.

Slicks

I thought I read there was no water box. Did Jeff

heat up the slicks? Without the heat in the tires they wouldn't provide the same traction.

I saw that STP truck heating up the slicks quite a few times... . towards the end of the night the track officials got lazy or whatever because they setup cones so that you had to drive AROUND the water box.

They might have done this so that the 10+ wheel dump trucks didn't track water all the way down the 1320...

Big slicks need a LOT of heat... . and I didn't see too many burnouts that were long enough to heat 'em up fully. The few good burnouts I did see were class-8 trucks burning out darn near to the 1/8th mile mark... . there was even a simultaneous side-by-side 1/8 mile burnout by two class-8 trucks!!

don't do what i've been doing for about a month... . we have a weekend in between the englishtown, joisey and epping. boy that hit me hard a couple days ago.

I ran ahead of him in our racer during eliminations. My class was called just before him. We ran in a different class, modified pickup (stock weight, runs on slicks). We blew a turbo three nights before the race at the same track and had nothing to put on but a stock HX35 for the race, so that's what we ran a 12. 8 with. Nitrous is not allowed in any class. STP did not win in the finals as he broke and ran a high 20 second pass, but did run the quickest diesel piston engine powered pass. A Lucas Oil sponsored truck won pro diesel. I have it on video. Something let go and it looked like someone was welding under the truck with all the sparks hitting the ground at midtrack. It may have been a turbo or both of them. Something began to affect the truck right after his launch. We didn't stick around long enough to find out. There was maybe six trucks running pro diesel, and STP was the only Dodge Cummins. Etown paid the pro diesel trucks a thousand bucks each just to show up. Smith Transport did not show up with their two Tornado trucks as they wanted at least two thousand for each truck to show. It's a shame that money is what the show has come down to now. It was so much better when they just came to put smiles on the fans' faces.

Chris:

I agree... . lots of guys don't show up anymore because they're not getting paid. When that happens it's time to sell off all their go-fast gear to young guys like me who are ready to take over.

It's expensive to race... it's gotta be in your blood and you have to be willing to not eat for a few days to pay for parts.

The Lucas oil truck took out a turbo... . it was leaking oil out the driver's side downpipe. That 8V-92 Detroit has 16 rounds of racing on it and it still doesn't need a rebuild. Not bad for an 800+hp engine... .
