Well been lookin all over the NET and am actually seeing alot of systems without a muffler, 4" systems and 5"systems... is this goin to be ungodly loud... . well couldn't stand it anymore, so yesterday i broke out the sawzall and cut both mufflers off my 99... took it to the local exhaust shop and the placed a 3" (sorry mine is still stock) straight pipe, and to tell ya the truth it is NOT to big a difference... but I did notice the turbo spins up a little faster... just wondering if you went one of these other systems if you would lose to much backpressure on the turbo?? Any one running one of these systems i'd like to hear from... thanks Russ

The turbo doesnt need backpressure, there are a few threads about it.

IMO it will be louder but if its out the rear corner you wont have a problem in the cab (well not too bad) with the windows up. With the windows down... you will get noticed!! the fuzz has yet to bother me

I can email you a pre/post video of mine 5" straight pipe off ebay

with a 4" system, your turbo will spool up a little quicker, but if your truck is stock, it's not a necessity by any means... I'm sure you'll like the sound of the 4", but you could get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

good job on the straight piping!!! I know that feeling all too well "couldn't stand it anymore" ;)

I left my stock system on until it developed a big hole on top of the bend over the rear - was blowing soot all over the underside of the bed - good excuse to get the 4" S/S Magnaflow system. Fit real nice and did it in the driveway one afternoon. About a 3 beer job. Last exhaust I'll have to buy for this truck.

127,000 miles on my '99. How much longer do I have to wait before I can expect to find a hole like that?

Lets see . . I think I found it about 131k, so not too much longer . . Ah, what the heck just go for it now - I can see the hole from here :-laf ;)

the heck! my 01 broke behind the muffler at 94,000miles! whats the deal!?! My buddys 98 12v had the exhaust stop a lil bit past the cab under the bed when he bought it... ... SOOT CITY!

First chance I get (next warm & sunny day), I'll be looking for that hole on top of the bend.

While I'm there, I guess I'll check to see if my spare tire is still there too. ;)

We did my mom's truck like that. Just took down to a shop and a got a pipe stuck on it. 3" with 5" tip :D it sounds good. Especially when next to a mountain or car, that reflects the sound back at you. :D
