Does anyone make a straight-pipe (otherwise known as muffler elimination) kit for a '97 that gets rid of the cat too? My cat is plugged and I figured the easiest and cheapest way to get rid of it would be to straight-pipe the exhaust, but the only kit I've found is Geno's and it doesn't get rid of the cat. I'd rather not pay a muffler shop to custom-bend a pipe for me.

Not getting anywhere with the straight pipe requests, eh? Bummer I thought there were enough straight piped people to give you a hand.

How much money to ya got? How loud to ya want it? How much power do you want in the end? bla bla bla?

-- Many like their straight pipes, many think they are too loud.

-- If you have the cash and get a 4" exhaust system now, it will not be too loud, sound really nice, give you the lower EGT's you want, and you wont have to redo it later down the road.

If budget is a concern:

-- You can do a search on walker mufflers. Get the 3" in/out and get about a 32" piece of 3" pipe to replace the cat.

-- I dont see why a long piece of 3" pipe, some slips and clamps wont work. I believe the area between the front of the cat and the back of the muffler is a straight shot.

Depending on the exhaust place it will be hard to get someone to remove the cat, since its probably illegal for them to do so.

Darel,

A long piece of straight 3 inch pipe will work. Measure from before the cat to after the muffler and have both ends flared to a 3 inch inside diameter, about $20.

You will have to refabricate your hangers if you want to do it right.

Thanks guys,

I was hoping it was just a straight shot. That'll make it easy.

Just out of curiousity, what do you guys think of flexpipe? I don't like it on gassers but on a 3" there's plenty more room in the pipe for exhaust to get through the ridges and such. Then again, that'd be an awfully long piece of flexpipe...

Tschwab,

From what I understand from the forum and my local Cummins guy (who straight-piped his own truck rather than get a 4"), the EGT gains are minimal. I'm hoping, since the general consensus seems to be that I have a plugged cat, I might see a bit more gain than someone with a properly functioning exhaust. You shouldn't need to upgrade until you really start shoveling the air/fuel mixture through, like bigger turbo or injectors or whatever. Correct me if I'm wrong.
