Well i am doing my first mod to my new truck on friday. Cant wait. Is this gonna be obnoxiously loud or do you think that it will sound good? Guess ill find out soon enough. :)

If you straight pipe from turbo back I think it is obnoxiously loud. I have heard and road in 2 different 600+ with straight pipes and the sound seemed tinny and would drive me crazy in the cab with moderate throttle.

Mine straight from turbo back to Banks Monster muffler sounds much better, deeper and is not too loud cruising. Just my . 02. I am sure the straight pipe guys will disagree.

well i am actually just cutting the muffler off going to leave the kitty in place for now for warranty issues so what do you think that will sound like?

That will probably be much better. Dont know if I have heard one in that configuration yet. The kitty does seem to act as muffler/resonator some, mine definately changed tones without the kitty, but that is partly be because of the SPS66 and new downpipe done at the same time.

IF you take the Cat off you will only void the warranty on the cat. It shouldn't void your warranty on any other part of the truck.

My 03 is straight piped, Its loud but its a nice fun loud IMO. It CAN get a little bit annoying on extended trips while towing a load (Anything over 12-15 hours and you start getting a little bit ******) but otherwise its pretty nice.

Mine is basically straight piped... it is LOUD, but tolerable... not as much resonation as my 99 had with a straight pipe. At highway speeds it isn't even that bad... not as bad as I thought it might be!!

I'll take my 16inch MBRP over the straight-piped 3rd gen any day

ESP. with stacks! -- The little bitty muffler is just enough to tune out the drone

mine is straight piped with stacks! it was moderately loud with the stock turbo, it got alot louder with my B1. it gets tiring on long trips but I love it around town.

Heres a soundclip from inside of the cab on mine... I took this with the video camera a month or two after I pulled the muffler (Which was about 2 weeks after the truck was bought new :-laf). I start off kind of slow and then floor it in 3rd and then kind of go easy on it and shift at normal pace up to 6th when I let it wind out a little bit. Its WAY loud outside and everytime someone I know is following me they tell me about how they hear the sound of it bouncing off of mailboxes and houses :D

mine is straight after the kitty on my 05. sounds ok to me. just drove down to texas, 15 hours, you get used to the sound, keeps you awake. wouldn't trade it for nothin. i'd say go for it.

yah i like the sound of straight piped diesels... all mine have been that way 97 ford then a 02 ford i know they sound diff but i would think then 97 would be louder than what the 06 dodge will be ?

i have a 600 that is straight piped with the cat in place. i love the sound it is loud. i dont have too much cab drone though. I have set off a couple of car alarms in my my straight pipe days. :-laf

Straight piped is not loud enough when I can still hear an Urban Outdoorsman, begging for gas cash, while stopped at a light in CrimeHills.

I love the way mine sounds with a 5" straight pipe exhaust system with a 6" tip. Many compliments, even from the ford guys. The only people that don't like the sound is the neighbors when I'm coming home late at night.
