OK guys, I need a wav file of a truck with a straight pipe so I can hear what it sounds like. I am thinking about going straight, but until I hear one. .

Thanks

I don't want to spend the money for the straight pipe and then have to go back and install a muffler. One other thing that I need to consider is that when I pull into a camp ground at 11 pm, how many people am I going to make mad??

Trust me you would like it. I have 4inch downpipe and then 5inch from there back. It sounds great! It isn't that loud at an idle, just when you get on it. I would record mine but I don't have anything to do it with.

I agree with Phil. You will not want to go back to stock. I ride with the passenger window down so I can soak up that big rig sound. Unless you goose it going into a campground late at night, your engine noise will be louder than your exhaust.

The sound is the perfect complement to a removed silencer ring #ad

I am never one to go with the group, and in this case I have a reason. I ran a straight pipe for 2 days before deciding to install the muffler. The sound was definitely cool #ad
, but at highway speeds under a load, the resonance in the cab will drive you nuts after a few hours. I would prefer a straight pipe in town, but while on the highway with the windows up, gotta muffle it.

I like that one Bill! I also feel that if they(PSD)can't run with the big dogs, they had better stay on the porch!!!!!

RamKids is right, sounds cool, but has very strong drone around 2100 rpm #ad
I am going to go with a 4" or 5" system in the near future which will be quieter. A straight-piped 3" is MUCH LOUDER than a straight 4" or 5" pipe. With the 3" I have, I love the sharp brapp around 2500rpm when I get on it, and the sound of the turbo spooling down when you let off of it after revving up good #ad

Instead of the full 4" system, I opted for the poor man's version. I can always move up later. I suspected that my cat was pretty clogged, so I took it off for an inspection. Holding it up to the sun and looking thru the bore yielded nearly a total eclipse, so it wasn't going back on. The idea of driving a crowbar thru it to remove the guts didn't appeal to me either; no emissions inspection to worry about. If anyone questions the exhaust, just answer: "It's a diesel, genius!" I got a 3" ID to 4" ID reducer for $9 and 48" of 4" dia. pipe for $18 (to cover the extra length of the club cab) and put them in as a replacement for the cat and the club cab extendo-pipe. Not a full 4" system, but more of the exhaust runs thru 4" pipe now than before, no more clogged cat, and upgrading won't be as financially depressing because of the low investment. Something to think about. The spool-up is definitely quicker, and the noise is just right.

Ted Jennetty has a site you could check out. Check for links through TDR site too get there. He's got some sound files that will put a smile on your face.

I had the full 3" straight pipe for years (almost since my truck was new). I then ordered the 4" down pipe and installed a full 4" system with chrome stack. I LOVE it!! The 3" was great, but now it has a TRUE big-rig sound. Not quite as loud in the cab either, surprisingly enough. Mine had the 'resonating' sound at 2000-2100 RPM, but that is gone with the 4" system. It is not too loud, except when in a hard pull, which even then is not too loud to me! I love the "noise" that these engines make without muffler and silencer ring! #ad
Psychotty air sounds good too.....
Now, If I could JUST get my 5th gear back!! #ad

Vaughn I will have to disagree my truck is louder inside and out with the 5 inch system than the 3 inch system.
