Straight pipe

How does the staight piped 03's really sound? I am getting ready for the muffler to fall off. I have seen conflicting reports. Some say they sound like ricers which I find hard to believe. I like it loud I just want it to sound good.

I personally think they sound like poo. I have had one on my truck for a little over a week now and its days are numbered. It is very loud and raspy. It sounds like a cross between a ricer and a 6cyl gasser, nothing like previous models. I ordered a Magnaflow muff and will install it this weekend and post the results. Hope this helps.

He is right. At higher rpm's it sounds like a "ricer". Spend the money and get a exhaust system.

yes it sounds like shi... . you woun'T LIKE it did mine at noon put stock muffler on at 5pm very dissapointed

i wonder why it sounds so different. same basic engine layout with turbo... when i get my 04 in the fall, i will straight pipe it, and if i don't like it, i will go to the local truck shop and get a 4" i/o resonator. maybe that would help?

2003 sound

We have been there as well, didn't like it at alll!!!!!! The truck we fabbed up our first 2003 system on was too much of a temptation to run a few miles while we had only the factory down pipe on it. We hated to sound, it was better at higher rpm but other wise wasn't anything we would want. I guess our muffler delete pipe sales will drop off too on the 2003's!



When we installed our system on the 2003 and then it sounded like the old 5. 9 your accustomed to hearing. The sound level is actually the same level as the 24 valve trucks but because the engine is quieter the exhaust note is a little more pronounced.

I really appreaciate the replies. I was really thinking on ordering the new muffler delete kit from genos for $98. I will save my money I guess for a good 4" or 5" system.
