Is the synthetic you are using really synthetic???

Hi everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me. How many of you have ever replaced your muffler with a straight pipe kit? If so were you happy with it. I don't see the need to go 4inch YET!!! Also have any of you had trouble concerning warranty issues while your truck was wearing a modified exhaust.

Thanks

I had a straight pipe put on in place of my stock muffler but left on the resonator. I noticed almost no change of in-cab noise and even with the windows down it was only noticeable when driving between buildings. However outside it sounded pretty darn good and aggressive. It was not quite loud enough so I swapped in 4" straight pipe from the resonator back. Everything in the cab sounded the same, but outside it was suprisingly a good deal louder. If you do remove the resonator and muffler it will sound good but without the resonator it will drone. Drone doesnt bother me but some people absolutely hate it. I finally found 5" straight pipe to suit my tastes but replacing the muffler is a good cheap start. I really doubt you'd run into any warranty problems.

I have been very happy with my Dynomax bullet race muffler, takes the edge off the straight pipe bark but still has the nice throaty sound. . best of all the muffler is cheap and available @Napa

I removed mine with the kit from Geno's a couple of months ago, and I love it. Listening to that sweet rumble exhuast sound off of buildings and other cars is great. Everywhere I drive I get a lot of double takes from people watching my truck. I think the best bomb I have do so far. :D :D :D

hmartin Hi and welcome to TDR and the boards. I have had my truck straighted piped for 2 years now and love every second of it.

I have had no warranty problems at all.

When i took off my exhaust system I did so very carefully so I can re install when or if need be. Straight pipe it you will be happy with the results.

Oo. Oo. Oo.

I love(ed) my straight pipe. I recently had to install a muffler because of a *****y neighbor that has no life except to complain about my loud truck bothering him at 5:00pm. Anyway, I did notice a difference after I put the muffler on such as slooooow turbo spool, higher EGT's and slower performance all around. I also noticed a drop of about 1. 5 mpg (I was getting about 18. 5+/- and now my best tank is 16. 8). I absolutely loved the way it sounded with a pipe and it would still be that way if I didn't live where I do. I'm anticipating a flow-through muffler in my future after I move. I'd say go fer it!

Rebel_Horseman What the hell kind of neighbor do you have that they are :-{} bought your truck at 5:00 pm inn the afternoon.

Man Id tell them to kiss my DIESEL A$$ and get a life. Tell them that diesels don't really need a muffler on them. I tell you what if they want to :-{} bought your truck then Id have to get a loud motorcycle to agitate them. Man I hate low life people like your neighbor that don't have a life.

You know I used that EXACT SAME argument and it got me nowhere! The dude's a freaking idiot. The landlord has absolutely NO freaking backbone to tell this guy to get a life. they guy is ****** at me because he confronted me about my "loud truck" and I told him to go sodomize himself (not that nicely but you get the picture). I also told him he could kiss this and several other things so he got in my face to intimidate me and I didn't back down to him and was going to get my baseball bat to break his skull open when the landlord escorted him away. So instead of getting a life he called the landlord every day saying I was bothering him. It's OK though because I'm still get in my truck and idle it in the afternoons and rev it when it's cold just to make him happy. I even tried to explain to the landlord that it was a DIESEL TRUCK and it's inherently loud because it's a real truck, and it was fully legal, especially since it wasn't being driven at any other time than 5-7 pm! It got so bad that my dad (retired Sheriff and now US Marshall) called the landlord and told him a few thoughts. :D Haven't heard anything lately. Anyway, sorry to post off topic.

No problem on the off topic thing it is part of the original post.

I know how you feel Rebel_Horseman cause I cant stand low life pieces of crap for brains useless pieces of cow dung no life having people. My next door neighbor is the same way, hes the one who poked the hole through my front grill.

Thanks for the info guys. Someone down by my grandma's house has had the local fuzz visit me about half a dozen times for my Chevelle (3 1/2 flowmasters) being too noisy. If going straight pipe helps performance them I guess I'll be eaten bread and a drinkin water while I pretend I'm reading posts while sittin in the pokey for making too much noise. :p

Diesel Rally at REB's house :D

That's about what I was thinking. I do know that when I move out of here (hopefully very soon) I"m going to crank my truck, idle it up to about 1200 and let it run the entire time I'm loading my stuff. It's so much fun getting even with a loser. :D

Rebel..... you have to tell me where you live!!! I will come there and make a smoke show for you while you sit in the front yard!!!! If the neighbor tells you anything, I will get out and take care of matters!!! And I am sure there are plenty of other people who would love to join the party!!!

I appreciate the help fellas. I think I'm going to have enough fun getting even with the dork myself, and I'm just hoping he says a word or tries something. He needs a butt whooping and I'd be more than happy to give it to him.

AWESOME

I had a straight on my first gen, and that was a good mellow sound... .

Then I straighted my 24v..... My life has begun at 22. I straighted the whole damn thing, and then my friend took out my turbo silencer ring. I just took it to a local muffler shop and he did it for 40 bucks (3 inch). It was the BEST 40 bucks I have ever spent in my life. IT will enrich you and your trucks relationship (as if mine could get any better), and makes the drive to work every morning a hellava lot funner... . so is passing slow pokes with there windows down:D

Im dropping the muffler this weekend replacing with a 10 foot piece of 4"stainless all the way back to the 4"tailpipe cant wait to hear it

I 5" straight-piped mine on 8/15/03 with the intent to add a straight-through muffler about a week later. Well, I still haven't added the muffler. I like the way it sounds. With the windows closed, it's not that big of a sound level increase compared to the stock 3" without muffler I was running previously. I got mine from bigexhaust.com. Just a word of warning: make sure you have the muscle under the hood first. Seems like everybody wants to race when they see that big a$$ pipe sticking out. ;)

Straight pipe it... ... you'll love it. Sounds just like the big rigs!

Reading your 1st post about your NEED to go to 4"; I sure didn't have a need to go 5", I just wanted the sound. To hell with the need, get what YOU want and enjoy life that much more!! I don't think any of us need to modify our trucks. What won't they pull in stock form? We modify because we can and want to. Let your hair down and go for it!Oo.
