was driving home from school today, when i heard what i thought was a straight piped sugar cane semi starting out from a traffic light. turned out to be a straight piped 3rd gen. 3500 qc 6sp. heard it through my windows, rolled em down to hear it better. WOW!!! did have a peterbilt sticker under the ram 3500 emblem. cool!!! was pulling a fully loaded 41' cattle trailer. :--) :D :D :--)

I drove an '03 6 speed that was straight-piped and was surprised at the low level of noise in the cab. Sure did sound off when he left my driveway, though.

I'd also like to try it on my truck. Being that the motor is stock, with the exception of the PG7 intake, I'm worried that it will sound like crap. I know Nick says his sounds good (and I'm sure it really does), but he has an EZ, and stainless pipe. I know on all the gassers I've had in the past, a Stainless tip would make all the difference in exhaust tone. So I wonder how that may be affecting the sound of Nick's?

Guess there's only one way to find out eh?

What's the best process by which to straight pipe it? The Muffler elimination kit from Geno's? Or it there a cheaper alternative?

Thanks,

Andy

just like nick, mine is the same... very much like a peterbilt sound... not raspy at all. i do have a 5" ss tip on mine. and if you like turbo sound i've got the pg7 intake w/ the s ring still intact and it's unbelieveable, you can hear the whistle right through the exhaust. .

Nick, Is that DPP (Diesel Power Products), or DPPI (Diesel Performance Parts)?

It always confuses me. DPPI is about 3 miles from my place of employment. I've met Mark, and he seems to be a super guy. I may give him a call.

JKnutson, Do you have factory plumbing, or an aftermarket exhaust sans muffler? What did you use to replace the muffler?

I've heard you can flip the intermediate pipe, which grants you a straight pass to the tail pipe, then simply insert a straight 4" pipe in place of the muffler. Any truth to that?

Crap... I dont even know what place i bought it from now. . Just call both places and see. Mine is a 36" SS pipe with the female flanges on both ends. Not sure if they have ones for the stock system

If you want a cheap alternative to try, instead of the $90-$95 elimanator pipe from geno's. Go to you local truck place and get a section of 3 1/2" inch flex pipe. Take your stock muffler off and slip the flex pipe on. Not the greatest, but a lot cheaper to just try and see if you like it or not. It does have a raspy sound at certain rpm's and with certain load on the engine. At idle(or just reving the engine while sitting in place) it sounds great, almost just like my okd 12v. But you do have to deal with the Rasp somewhere along the way.
