I have been lurking in the shadows reading posts but not paying my way in... . until now. Thanks for all the help with my dead lift pump (would not have known if not for TDR). Local dealer is actually competent and easy to work with, imagine that.

Plan on adding some power soon so when muffler started falling off I read up on the whole straight pipe situation. Had the local muffler shop add a 3" pipe from the resonater to the tail pipe and left the rusty muffler on the shop floor. Very pleased with the results. Not much louder at all and will let me spend some money on other mods instead of investing in 4" exhaust right away.

Saw earlier post concerning block heaters only being available in 120v. Check out kim Hotstart part# TF52-002 750 watts 240V.

Thanks

Yeah, I'm definetly walkin away from the light... Now if I can just convince myself that the injectors are clogged and need replacin. . /maybe an Edge will fix the 50 rpm drift at idle. Ah something will need to be replaced soon and I'll be ready.

Hey your injectors are clogged and need to be replaced:eek: No really, The place you order the new ones from might just accidently put the wrong BIG ones in the box:--) Oo.

I liked the way my stock tail pipe looked, so I just took the sawzall out and cut out the muffler and resonator. Had a piece of aluminized 3" cut and the ends expanded to slip right over the factory 3" (71" section) and clamped it on there. WOW!!!

I also made a custom but stock looking hanger by re-using the rubber mounts that held up the muffler. I dont have any drone either. In fact, I think its quieter in the cab now on the highway at all speeds. At least not any louder than stock.

But... :D ... its a different story behind the truck outside. This thing sounds like a tri-axle straight piped Mack with turbo whine galore (I run a Fleetguard BHAF also). I'm completely satisfied. Now all I need is a chrome tip to slide over the tail pipe to get it out from under the quarter panel a little more.

This plus my RV275's give me that nice little puff of black on up shifts making this a true Big Rig Truck... to me anyway.

Hey guys, I got rid of my muffler and resinator also, but my truck is not as loud as my buddies HO, at idle. Driving down the road my truck seems to cackle through the exhaust at shift points. My question is should I reinstall the resinator?

I left my resonator on and mine makes a fast sputtering noise at idle. Sounds almost like a card was fluttering in the exhaust stream. I decided to solve the problem by standing on the Throttle. Apparently it is really loud under load, can't here it from the cab but my mirrors show some people with disgusted and somewhat puzzeled looks on thier faces. I LOVE IT! Now if I could only pass them faster.

71" Section of 3" pipe

I went the only muffler shop in town with 3" pipe today to get rid of the muffler. The owner has broke leg is isn't doing any custom work. If said if I could give him the measurements head bend, cut, swell the pipe for me but couldn't install due to his leg. Whataver!

My Question: You mentioned 71" 3" pipe to replace your muffler and resonator. Is it straight pipe? Looking for something to go to the shop with. Can I tell them I need a 71" long piece of 3" straight pipe flared on the ends and it will fit?? Do you know how big to flare the ends too also??

Thanks,

I purchased a direct bolt in from Carson City Dodge (John Holms) or you can get one from Geno's. Has the adaptor and pre-bent pipe to replace the stock muffler. I replaced mine in less than thirty minutes and it sounds and runs great!:p

Barrington, I PM'ed you.

71" works on a 99 Quad Short Bed with a totally stock exhaust. Cut off immediately behind the muffler to keep as much straight section as you can there. There isn't much to work with. Cut out sloppy welds. There was also a "button" on the top of my pipe that I had to grind off with a hand grinder, little more work, but I needed that straight section of the exhaust.

Cut right in front of the resonator. 71" will be too long by a couple of inches, so trim more off on the front after you bolt up and clamp the back end first.

PS: Do not cut out 71" of stock exhaust. You will need about 66" or 67" cut out to allow for overlap in the flared sections. Flare to fit over the OD of 3" pipe plus just a hair more to make assembly easy... and future removal easy.
