98. 5 24v... there are two muffler looking things on my

truck one is quite a bit larger then the other, I am thinking

the large one is the muffler and the smaller one is the

resonator? I have read it is best to keep the resonator

(avoid drone) and can the muffler. where can I get

a straight pipe, looks like a bolt in process. However

one end appears 4"? and the other 3"?

Can anyone help?

TIA

Kirk

You are on the right track. The small one is either a resonator or a cat. You can an adadpter to go from 3 to 4". Any good muffler shop should have 3" pipe.

Where can i get 3"to 4" adpt? The muff guy in my town

has no 4" stuff and can not blieve anyone would

need such large exhaust:rolleyes: sometimes people's

ignorance is more than I can stand:confused:

Are the resonators 4" straight through? If so, I'd like to try one in place of my muffler to see how it sounds (or, hear how it looks!) :D

I ran straight 3" for a while. I liked it but the wife and neighbors thought it was too much. I now have a 3" resonator the I got from NAPA. I still like it. It sounds different than any stockers, the turbo screams, and the neighbors don't throw rocks at me.

I bought my 4"-3"adapter at napa along with a short length of 3" pipe with a bell on one end. I had to cut the pipe to length cost was under 40. 00

I have a 4" Turbo back system, and the only thing I have is a 4" dynomax bullet race muffler. It cost about $40 from my local napa and sounds SWEET!!! Just enough to that the edge off the straight piped sound

my neighbors hate my straight pipe, but they are not the one paying my damn bills! They can go kick rocks for all I care! Just my opinion...

As far as a Cat/Resonator:

Catalytic converters were used from 1995 up to 1998. 4... Resonators took their place, due to the fact that the 24 valve, overvalved motor was introduced to lower emissions, thus eliminating the use of a Catalytic converter. This is what I was told, and what I have read, so someone correct me if I am wrong.
