Hey gang, I never thought I'd have to do this, but I am calling out for a 911 for me!



I came down here to Minooka with my dyno to help with the Meltdown in Minooka event. And my truck broke. Actually the ECM is fried. So what I need is a way to get back home so I can fix this truck.



Does anyone have a '99 ECM I can use to get back home with? Or the means to get me and my trailer back home? I have to get back to LaCrosse, WI.



If anyone has a spare ECM laying about and could let me 'Rent' it I would appreciate it greatly. Please give me a call at (608)304-0399 and I can meet up with you or discuss it more. Thanks guys.

Well, I checked ebay for a 99 computer. found a 2001-2002 unit. Dont think that will work but it might. I think, but not sure, the dealer may have the ability to reprogram an ECM. would be a good idea to call the dealer, but they may just want to sell you a new one ($$$$)

I have run a 2000 ECM in my truck before. It runs, but... It goes into limp mode and runs like crap. However, this may be one of those "any port in a storm" situations. CSnyder has VERY GRACIOUSLY offered to tow the dyno back to LaCrosse with me in it. At least then, I can get that back to it's owner. However, that means that I'll have to leave my truck in Joliet until I figure out what I want to do with the thing. I'll know more about 6:30 tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

P. S. One estimate for my ECM was $1200 with a $250 Core. And I'd have to go get the thing. Boy does this situation stink!

Hey guy, my truck is a 99' with a manual trans, i donno if it will work for you, but if you have a way to get the ECM back to me in a helluva hurry i can help you out with that i guess. Otherwise i do have a gooseneck trailer with a winch that i can tow your truck on my trailer with no problem. Let me know what you find out, ill be glad to lend any help i can in getting you home.

I 'think' Aron made it home last night. We went to the shop to move his truck and trailer getting ready for C Snyder to pull the trailer home and leave Aron's truck behind. I had the chain hooked up and Aron had put his truck back together to keep the parts from getting lost. Just as I was taking slack out of the chain Aron was waiving at me. Just for laughs he turned the key and it started. I followed him to about Rochelle and all seemed to be going well so I went back home. I have not heard from him this AM but I am pretty sure he made it.

I sure was looking forward to coming after him. I was gonna have him drive back so I could sleep since I had already ran a 500 mile trip yesterday and I figured that after he drove my truck for the long trip home he would probably have it making 500 horse like his... LOL I bet it was giving trouble because of the cold on Saturday and the ECM code may be an early warning to line one up. I tried calling him at 10 PM and got his voicemail so I sure hope he calls this AM and says he made it... . nothing worse than sleeping in a cold truck. Would it be possible that he got the ECM code because he "had" a 99 5 speed and switched it to an auto? I think maybe all of our members should write a thanks for nothing letter to the place who quoted him 1200 for an ECM and avoid them like the plague.

I got home under my own ECM. I don't know what happened, but I am following Chris' logic and am going to start looking for a replacement unit. Just in case. But as it sits, it's been running fine for now.



Thanks to Dennis for allowing me to stay with them whilst I pulled out my hair trying to find a replacement (that doesn't come cheap if it comes at all). Thanks to Integrity Auto for helping me with the leg work to locate an ECM and for allowing me to store my truck and trailer at their place. And thanks to CSnyder for his offer to come back to IL and get me home.



I am honored that there are so many people here that were willing to inconvenience themselves to come to my aid. Thanks for all your support. Here's one story with a happy ending. Thanks again.
