Bottom line is I need a rebuilt/used engin. Now here is the rest of the story. I travel pulling 5th wheel RV, and needed a new Timing Gear cover last Jan. Since I move around alot I went to the Dodge dealer in Denton TX (Jim McNatt). They failed to re-mount the engine ID Tag, and did not give it to me. Warning: record your Serial Numbers. I can't get a rebuilder to send me an engine without the engine S/N. I have tried the Chrysler Customer Service and all contacts through Auto Zone.

Other than a used engine, I'm looking at a month to have this one rebuilt. It's costing about $500 a week to be here (RV space and Rent car) so the month long route is not cost effective. Even though I would prefer the rebuild (warranty), I'm leaning toward the used.

Any ideas out there?

The truck is a '97 3500 5sp man. 3:55, US Gear underdrive box.

You probably need the S/N and the CPL #. Maybe someone here can lend you their numbers, from a truck that is setup the same as yours. I have auto, so I don't know what all differences there may be, if any, other than the fuel injection pump and injectors.

Welcome to the TDR, and good luck.

There's a shop here in town (Mtn Home) that I've been told does great work. It's a father/son shop and they both own some really built up Cummins pickups

It's a little ways from Twin Falls, but they might be able to help you out.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've ordered a used engine through Auto Zone (4 day delivery) warranty for 1 Yr. . and sold as Dodge Cummins vs. who knows what on the after market. Agin let me warn all to record your Serial Numbers.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I don't have any help on on obtaining an engine but I am in Twin Falls. I have a decent set of tools if you are planning on installing this yourself also. Give me a call if there is anything I can help with. 208-539-2856
