Ok guys my truck currently has 155k on the clock and I just recently noticed it making a funny noise. It sounds like a gas engine detonating or like an electrical arch and sounds like its coming from under the driver's seat area. The noise shows up most clearly under deceleration between 1500 and 1250 rpm. It will also tick if i leave it in neutral and rev it between those rpm's. It doesn't tick at any other rpm's. I dont hear it under load but i guess that it may be occurring and I just cant hear it over the symphony the 5. 9 makes. I have heard some guys talk about lift pumps making similar noises. Now my dilemma is that I have a 2000 mile trip planned for next week and I really dont want to be stranded (and I will call you guys on the companion :) ). Let me know what you think... any help is greatly appreciated as usual.

Thnx,

Andy

p. s. - I will be traveling from central Fl to the TN, NC boarder... let me know if anyone needs anything hauled.

Mine makes a slight tick also, mostly when warm and at idle, can't really hear it in the cab though. Mine seems to be coming from drivers side underneath , I think it is the fuel return line?

AMcKee it could be the lift pump making the noise, possibly caused by a weakening spring in the overflow valve. If you've never replaced it might give that a try.

Tardog mine doese the same thing. Pretty normal 12-valve thing from what I understand.

Vaughn is good at these things I would add a couple others...

Clutch pilot bearing or exhaust leak...

If you had a AUTO I would look at the flex plate but it looks like you have a 5sp stick.

When my flex plate went out it made all kinds of sounds like the pump lost the fuel pump and was sucking air.

Gave me the gibbees... then it just went the flex plate.
