Alright Guys... wasn't sure how else to explain this in the title. I was driving my fathers 01 the other day while pulling our boat and while heading to the ramp in 1st and 2nd gear something happened that I have never seen before with a Manual Transmission. When holding the brake to slow it down to a crawl all of a sudden it will actually pick up speed on its own and the brakes won't even hold it... it almost feels like its building boost (its totally stock and doesn't have guages). I then tried it again in 4-low when pulling out of the ramp and it was even worse... as soon as I brought the rpm down to basically idle RPM with the brakes but still in gear it actually picked up spead.

It would be great for doing a big brake torque but I am scared its going to cause an accident if say my mothers driving it and tries to slow down.

Any idea's???

Are you talking about with the clutch in? If you are holding the brake on with it in gear and trying to take it down to idle, the computer accelerates automatically to keep you from killing it. Now, its only slightly, but it does do it. My truck does it, and I'm sure everyone else who is on this sight's truck does it. Just some programming to keep the engine from dying if you lug it to low.

JFlagg is right. Also especially in low when you apply the brake at idle without clutching you're creating load on the engine just like a dyno which will increase the exhaust temps, thus increasing the boost pressure slightly. These trucks are geared low so even at idle there pretty stout. Shouldn't be a problem.

Alright, Sounds like its normal then... just kind of scared me the first time it happened. I am used to our 12valves and they don't do this! I was like WTF is going on here.

Anyway, thanks for the fast replys and I will tell him just what it is.

Thanks again... RyanB

Yup, add a computer to the 12V and it acts like it has a mind of its own:-laf

The bonus to this feature is starting from stop on a steep incline. Put 'er in 1st and let out the clutch..... it will push right on through your brakes. Makes for worry free trailer towing in traffic

Not to poke fun at you Ryan... . but my 14 year old sis had to be schooled on this also. She tried to slow way down in the driveway and freaked out when it kicked up again. Just about shot through the garage door!
