I was driving along and tried to adjust my right hand power mirror. Just as I touched the knob the radio went out, the mirrors didn't work and, as I discovered later, the interior lights don't work.

I tried to buy a manual only to find the stealers don't carry them. You have to order them. Can any of you guys that have one maybe take a look and see where those three things come together?

Oh yeah, the radio fust blows instantly. All other fuses are good inside and under the hood.

It usually isn't a problem on newer vehicles, but make sure your body ground is OK. A poor connection there can create havoc with the electrical system.

From my '01 manual:

I'll start with the fuse.

Fuse 12, which is the left one on the bottom row (in the cab) goes to three connectors on the back of the junction block.

C2, C3, C7.

Looking at the back of the junction block, they're numbered

4-5-1

9-8-7-2

6-3

I tried to place those so that 1-2-3 are lined up on the right.

C2 Pin 3 -> Underhood lamp

C3 Pin 6 -> Overhead console

C7 Pin 9 -> Joint connector #5

Joint connector #5, which is up near the brake lamp switch, feeds to

S310, a splice that feeds

Power Mirror Switch

Dome Lamp

Cargo Lamps 1 and 2

JC5 also feeds

Data Link Connector

Radio

Glove Box Lamp and Switch

So, if the underhood lamp works, I'd be lookin' at JC5. Hope this helps.

Jim

Edit: By the time I found all the pages, I'd forgotten about the radio fuse blowing. I assume that's fuse number 12? I guess I'd unplug the three connectors, and see if the fuse holds. Plugging them in one at a time should narrow it down to an area.

If you're not going to the dealer and want to trace it further yourself, I'll be glad to provide additional detail as needed.

Do you have clearance lights on the roof?

Could be a bad gasket/seal allowing moisture to get into the overhead console.

Thanks for the help guys. I've got it narrowed down to lowering the right hand mirror. Jim - do you have wire colors for that function?

Mark,

My 2001. 5 manual shows yel/blk 22ga and a

white 22ga supplying the right motor up/down

motion. All fed from F12... . but you knew that!

You can move the mirror up, but not down...

(scratches head)

It could be in the switch, but I think it's more likely a ground in the W wire.

Choosing "up" directs the hot through the YL/BK wire, through the motor and back out the W wire. Since it goes up (I assume your mirror is looking at the sky), I assume your motor is okay. If the white wire is grounded, this will still work.

Choosing "down" directs the hot through the White wire, through the motor, and out the Yellow/BlacK wire, back through the switch, and to ground. If the white wire is grounded, your fuse blows.

Hope this helps.

Jim

P. S. Had to edit to remove some mis-information.

Mark,

Just to continue on Jim's advice... . assuming

that F12 no longer blows with the Right side

mirror connector off the switch, you could put

a meter on each of those wires (still disconnected from the control switch) and measure from the

connector (mirror side) to ground for each wire.

When you find a direct short (or something close to a short, 1-3 ohms) then you can trace the wire

and wiggle it while watching the meter. My

guess from here is the wire is touching the metal

of the door where it enters the right side motor.

Let us know how we did on our long distance diagnosis. ;)

IOD

The IOD fuse is for Ignition Off Draw. Among other things this feeds the radio preset memory and the ECM.
