Once in awhile I like to stop and admire the outlet of my 5" exhaust system, especially when the engine is running

A couple days ago I noticed the soot coating inside the pipe has turned from its usual coal-black shade to a medium gray. What's up with that  It looks very strange. Also the fine layer of soot that has accumulated on the rear fender over the last few hundred miles is not the typical fine, slightly sticky powder that usually takes a bit of cleaner to remove. This stuff was larger than grains of sand, clumpy soft blobs of soot particles speckled all over the fender. When I wiped them off they were dry and came off easily without cleaner. It was strange looking to say the least.

Mileage, power and smoke level hasn't changed and fuel was purchased at my typical watering hole with the usual shot of Stanadyne.

Anyone else notice this sort of thing?

Maybe with that large exhaust the soot can cool or oxidize more than it normally would in that distance, leading to the greyish color?

I have DDIII's, and I still get the soot described above on my 5" stacks, maybee i'll have ta get BD 5's now. :D Maybee thats the injector guideline, if one has 3" exhaust get stage 3 injectors, 4" get BD 4's and so on. :p

The other day, I made the mistake of accidentally(sp?) squirtin' the end of the stack with the power washer, and I happen to be wearin' a WHITE shirt... it's not very white anymore.

LOL, that reminds me of one of the few times my wife has rode in my truck. She was all dolled up, with a purty white dress, when I flipped on the ebrake to warmup the truck. She had her window down when the every present soot shower exited the stack and entered the cab  . Needless to say she wasn't very amused at her new polk a doted dress.

If you decide on the 5's, you better add a clean out door at the bottom of each stack and chimney brush :D

Don't get rid of that soot. I've found out it tastes pretty good with my bowl of cearial (sorry spelling sucks) in the morning. :D :D

I need help I know, but haven't found anyone that can help yet.
