When an injector causes a rough idle occationally, is it the tip or just the solinoid not opening

The reason why I ask is: I recently replaced my rebuilt injectors from F1

because they caused rough idle occationally. My new injectors are new stock injectors. They work good but I do miss the power the F1 tips gave me.

So if I put the F1 tips on my new injectors would the rough idle return or not?

The old injectors had 180,000 miles on them before they were rebuilt. I put about 15,000 miles on them until I started getting the rough idle again.

What do you guru's think?

Dennis,

It could be either but I have been under the impression that most are caused by the sol. valve sticking open and allowing a continuous stream of fuel into the cylinder. I have had the problem intermittently and have been using a fuel additive to keep it from recurring with good success so far, 34000 miles. I'm sure you will get some (many) different opinions on this. bg

I would tend to think the solenoid half is the part that would fail least often. The solenoid (really simple terms) allows fuel pressure to (almost) equalize on both sides of the pintle so it reduces the amount of effort to lift the pintle off the seat. Otherwise the solenoid would be trying to lift the pintle off the seat with 20,000 psi or more trying to hold it shut.

In 5. 9 class a couple of years ago we pulled the tip off an injector and painted the pintle shaft with a sharpie. We could not re-assemble the injector. So my vote would be small debris sticking the pintle in it's bore as the cause of most misfires. That would also be the most likely cause of sticking the injector open and melting a piston.

So, Do you think I should try the F1 tips?

I hate to spend the time pulling them if you think the problem is in the tips
